I much prefer Revolution myself. Thats all there is to it. Its just this idea of togetherness they've come up with to defend it thats put me off the 'name' not the console itself. I'm not bothered about the urine jokes in the slightest but if you cant laugh at them there's something amiss somehwere.

Its still a poxy name and it has divided a community of fans who usually support Nintendo whatever the outcome. They've made the wrong choice of name. Its not even catchy and it certainly doesnt roll off the tongue.

true, but the problem here is that Wii isn't just a crappy name - it's what it actually means (in english at least).
if they'd called it the nintendo Go we'd still be here going "what a crap name i would've called it the Revolution", but that's about it, and the apologists would still be arguing for the reason behind it (5th console and that)...

the only problem i have with the name is that i fear the (mostly crap) jokes may never end.

I can't believe how much opinion this has generated. Thinking about it a tad more it kind of fits in with the DS branding, short 2-3 letters, maybe drop the nintendo references. I think branding wise (forgetting the dual meaning with pronunceation bit for a second) it's **** hot. As for the other bit, I just can't wait to see the games - I couldn't giove a monkes what it's called and I'm not a nintendo share holder so don't really care how many they sell so long as it's enough for some games to be made for it which something tells me will be pretty safe so hey i I'm all smiles!

I just wish they'd given people like me more time to get used to it. As it is a big ask to get many people to accept it all at once. Perhaps by the time it comes out I wont be thinking about it like this and it will have genuinely sunk in.

I mean that in the sincerest way, but the people who are defending it are going to have get used to the jokes even more as the 'stereotype brand boys' find out about it. It will only get worse once the many game buying people outside of these communities find out about it and hear of this name change from something as 'cool' sounding as what they initially chose. I got a blank stare of disbelief from my 360 owning brother when I told him. Not that I gauge an entire nations ideas on what my brother responds like, but he's well outside the loop these days.

I wasnt really speaking for myself there. As there is going to be alot more people who dont frequent these types of places going to take the 'piss out of it' something chronic. Whether that be right or wrong its going to be even harder when defending being a gamer in front of those types of people. They'll take the piss even more. Its pretty bad now for those people who dont understand.

I'm afraid there'll be more than me who will use toilet humour. This country has been built on a diet of toilet humour and abuse for a long time now. Also I'd rather see the humourus side of it than those people who cant at least raise a bit of a laugh. They better get used to defending it to people in their places of work and in front of non gamer types.

It doesnt honestly bother me though eitherway what its called but i did mean in the context of how long they've given us to get used to it, but there will definitely be alot of people outside of gaming who'll laugh even harder.
