    MegaDrive Shoot em ups

    Hi,

I've been trying to remember the name of a Megadrive shoot em up i really enjoyed but can't for the life of me recall it. All i can remember (12 years ago :/) is that it was a horizontal scrolling shoot em up....that’s it!! I have very vague images of it in my head and know i would remember it if i saw it. I think it was a sequel and the ship might have been an orange colour but i honestly can't remember. Played a bit like R-Type but wasn’t.

Does anyone have a list of megadrive shoot em ups i could look through, or know of any good ones it might of been?

    Cheers

    Tommy

I don't have a list, but I'm gonna start the guessing

Zero Wing - the ship was orangey on the cover
    Hellfire

Gairies - it had a force ball that you could shoot at enemies and 'steal' their weapon. It was ace.

          Thunderforce III
          Thunderforce IV
          Gaires
          Same Same Same
          Gley Lancer
          Battle Wings
          Ultimate Tiger
          Battle Mania

I quite enjoyed Insector X as well. Graphics weren't amazing but played pretty smoothly. One of the early Megadrive releases.

                  Wait a minute..........

no one's mentioned Aeroblasters yet! - one of the few MD shooters to feature a 2 player mode - excellent speedy tunnel section (barrier powerup essential!)

Insector X is good, if you have a switched machine then try running it in 50Hz and look at the title screen and switch it off and look at the title screen in 60Hz.

One of my favourites. Phase 4 and 5 are horribly imbalanced though. Totally unfair.
