Metal Slug 3 PS2 - a wise buy?

I'm not really up on the slug games - but I do like a good run & gun (Contra, Gunstar etc)

Now, is Slug 3 a worthy example of the genre? Or should I go back to Shattering Soldiers.....?

The slug games are good fun! I haven't played MS3, but be sure to look out for my review shortly. As for MS3, I have heard only great things tbh

I've only played the ROMs of the 'Slug games because I can't afford them. From what I've read MS3 is the best one in the series. I'm definitely getting this game if it gets a PAL release. If it doesn't it's another reason to get my PS2 chipped 8)

p.s. The Metal Slug games play somewhat the same as the games you mentioned earlier, but I haven't played all the games long enough to really tell the differences and similarities. I do know that Metal Slug is a lot funnier with all the goofy animations and stuff.

I bought a Neo Geo AES for this one game primarily so the whole thing cost me ?500 and I dont regret it. This is one of the best games I have played and I am considering getting the PS2 version as well.

It is so much fun.

Does anyone know if the PS2 port is arcade perfect or has any extra's? I supposed there will be some artwork to unlock, but are there any more extra's?

The main difference between Metal Slug 3 and a good run and gun game like Contra or even Gunners Heaven is the crap, loose Virtua Fighter style floaty jumping, lack of diagonal fire and the slowdown.

Has some different modes to unlock too, A UFO battle mode, boss mode, some artwork, a stage select and some other stuff.

Also, infinite continues instead of the 5 on AES, whether you think that's good or bad depends on how hard you find it I suppose.

tbh, I prefer both Gunners Heaven and Gunstar Heroes to MS3 (which I like as well). MSX is my fave Slug game.
