Multiplatform game comparisons? (e.g. Prince of Persia)

This has probably been asked before, but I can't find anything. I have a PC, Xbox, PS2 and a GC. At the end of the console's life cycle, I have yet to find a good resource for comparing multiplatform games and determining, which version is best. It's an age old debate between fanboys of different camps, but I am just after the technically (graphics, sound, to some extent features) best version and it does not necessarily always fall on XBOX or PC.

Any links to sites (something like dvdcompare.net, which compares DVD content from different regions) or even specific opinions on the Prince of Persia or Splinter Cell series, which I want to get into and which brought this whole thing up?

PoP on the SNES ruled them all. Both in GFX and added gameplay.

between ps2 and xbox it tends to come down to graphics and multiplayer.

splinter cell is a good example. the games are built for the xbox then stripped down for thr ps2 which means they don't look as good and the dynamic lighting is rubbish. the multiplayer is also better on the xbox as the ps2's online functionality is terrible. the xbox live service is obviously brilliant and makes playing much easier

in prince of persia's case though i'd say ps2 as i prefer the controller for the prince games

Yep I think that's all it comes down to - Case in point - GTA - It was made around the dual shock so doesn't translate as well to Xbox but the addition of 5.1 and the slightly cleaner graphics plus custom soundtracks sell it for me.

I doubt there are many multiformat titles that come off better on PS2 (or GC) - The 2 games you mention are perfect examples.

Another thing to note is that most xbox exclusives technically couldn't make the switch to PS2 - Halo 1&2, PGR2, Quantum Redshift, Ninja Gaiden, DOA - They just wouldn't be possible on PS2/GC without seriously compromising them graphically

And they were right. Outrun 2 SP is visually inferior to the Xbox only Outrun 2.

Generally GameCube versions have sharper textures and a smoother framerate than the PS2 version, whilst the Xbox is generally better still, although that doesn't always mean it looks better - you have to bear in mind that most multiplatform games are made primarily with the PS2 in mind, so the textures are only ever going to be low-res anyway so putting them out at a higher res can make them look washed out.

For PoP in particular I'd say go for the Xbox version (graphically its very close to the PC version) unless you don't like the controller, in which case, go for the GameCube.

I started a thread on this before which might help:

Imo Prince of Persia SOT looks better on the PC, GC and the XBox than the PS2. The XBox and PC has better textures and the GC probably has the best lighting.

However, the XBox version is the only version (for some reason) that contains POP2 as an extra. They all contain POP1.

With Splinter Cells, it's pretty much XBox or PC all the way, especially the later games with their online components. The PS2 and PC versions of the first game has extra levels, but you can download these to the XBox for free if you have Live.

Great responses on those games. Thanks!

Brats - scary that I used dvdcompare as a reference as well (EDIT - although the comparison between your thread and DVDCompare is alot more valid than mine :P). You're probably an avid dvd collector as well then.

I did a search on "Multiplatform" and "Comparison", but didn't come up with your thread. Just looking at the first page, your thread looks almost looks like the info I was hoping for, but I was more after comparisons between games coming out on different systems, rather than region features. I just found that IGN do these features, but it is exclusive member content.

Any plans of putting your thread info up on a website or reviving it? I know the info is getting old and we got sites like HDgames.net etc to get progressive scan/60Hz feature comparisons, but still useful.

                      Xbox > GC > PS2

                      In terms of processing/graphics power.

(can't wait to see where this goes now )

If you have Insider IGN run Head to Heads here which compare big multiplatform games on various systems. They have comparison screenshots, and compare graphics, sound, multiplayer, features, etc. Good stuff if you don't mind paying for them.

                        Incidentally:

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time - video comparison which I didn't watch
Prince of Persia: Warrior Within - Xbox
Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones - video comparison
                        Splinter Cell - Xbox
Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow - PC
Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory - PC

but it's hardly a "serious compromise"

My statement clearly states "in terms of processing/graphics power" - so you're implying that FFXII, DMC and Collosus wouldn't be possible on the Gamecube ? I can't think of a better home for SotC than the GC.

On the other hand we all saw what happened (even given best endeavours and 12 months) when RE4 was converted from GC to PS2 didn't we ?
