Pretty cool feature surprised nothing was mentioned about the supposed arcade version of the hardware for killer instinct and crusin usa

Which i think was nothing like the finished hardware at all

Loved the article - I'm going to dust my N64 off when I get home.

I've never experienced Pilotwings on the N64, it's one of those games I've been going to buy it for years. I think I'll have a poke around on E-Bay for it.

I picked up Body Harvest recently for the bargain-licious ?1.99 loving this game it's graphics haven't aged too well but plays very good and I'm enjoying it.

****...has it really been ten years? I'll never forget the day I came home with my N64 (that was actually 1/3/97, the UK launch) and Mario 64 because that was one of the real revolutionary gaming moments. I can't see any jumps of that scale happening again as each generation now takes another couple of baby steps towards photorealism.

Nice to see Perfect Dark get a mention.

I still have the Official Nintendo Magazine from the launch period.

LOL, I remember when it came out in Japan Nintendo Magazine System ran a huge feature over a few issues showing how to get every single star in Mario months before it was even out here. Cheers for that...now I know I'll be surprised when I finally get to play it...

Liking the article, and I still very much play mine. I have owned a few N64s over the years and built my collection back up and sold it on again a few times for personal and still regretful reasons. That grate a bit even now. I'm back collecting again now, albeit mainly to replace the imports which we didnt see over here during its lifetime.

There's some really good stuff as players will know, and although its a niche title Ogre Battle 64:The Person of Lordly Caliber is still one of my all time favourite games. Its still causing me a few headaches, and I still plat it even now. Its a seminal game for fans of Classic SRPGs, and something I'd like to see get another outing on one of these generations machines.

Mind you everyone has their own memories of classic games for the 64 be they imports or otherwise, and to me it was a vastly underrated machine. Now if Squaresoft had released Final Fantasy VII for it as first thought. Before the famous cartridge-disk fallout debacle the entire face of gaming would have been very different to what it is now. Truely a Classic machine. Imho8)

I'll never forget the 1st time I played Mario 64, Pioltwings talking about jaw droping , I remember even my mun and auntie being somewhat impressed with the 3D in Mario (after it cost them a arm and a leg on Import) , and words fail me the 1st time I saw the blood squirt out of the guys neck in Turok In fact my mates you give my a knock almost every day , just so they could see and play Turok.
I loved FPS and the machine and the Joypad were just so perfect for FPS , Its just a shame it never came with a CD Drive , as I can't help but feel that hurt the console inthe long run .

                    Ace console though

One of my all time favourite consoles ? I too remember getting my (bloody expensive) Jap imported N64 home and firing up Mario & Pilotwings ? I was glued for days ? Never having owned a SNES I had no idea about Pilotwings so you can imagine how long it took me to pick my jaw back up !

Good shout on Turok there too and let?s not forget the RARE golden era was back then too ? DKR, BanjoKazooie, Goldeneye ? too many to mention. I don?t know that carts cost it ? they certainly didn?t help in the long run but I think the constraints they imposed also brought us some of the best games whilst restricting others (particularly cross platform titles which were developed for CDR and then had sound cut/compressed to **** to fit on the cart).

Very happy memories ? What was that mad fighting game where you fought a cow ? That was funny J

My favourite console of all time. I always remember swapping my Playstation with one of my dad's mates for an N64 and Mario and the Nintendo magic was there once again. Never regretted swapping in the slightest as it holds my fondest gaming memories...

Smash Bros competitions with friends, sneaking out of school to play Goldeneye, calling on my best friend earlier than usual so I could play Turok 2 for just that little bit longer!

Call me a cynic but I don't think I will ever get that 'feeling' again. I know I've never felt it since with the demise of carts, cardboard cases, the innovative control system (I hold my hopes up for Wii though!).
