If you have a 360 i'd say give Tomb Raider Legend a go, it's easy just to pick up and i found the majority of the locations a joy to play.

PS2, God of war as mentioned.

    Gamecube Viewtiful Joe.

    Xbox, Ninja Gaiden.

DS, mario, castlevania, peach, tetris, far too much on here.

Older consoles, 2-d style, anything Mario or Sonic.

Knights of the Old Republic is the best RPG (read only RPG I could be arsed with) I've played and it's cracking good yarn. Stick that in your loom!

        Yeah thats true dude.

I have to say I loved doing the forklift racing & tasks in Shen 1!!

I still have both & I'm never going to part with them as I think they are some of the best of Sega's gaming classics.

I'd love to see a Shen 3 appearing on a next gen console.

For me the very best games are the ones that at their core are quite basic. No needless complexity just pure gameplay. It is quite subjective though - a lot of the game that have been mentioned here do absolutely nothing for me and if anything have contributed at times to me finding gaming tedious.

I gotta agree with that too.
And as mentioned by me b4 the 1 thing that has brought that spark back for me is the DS because of that very reason.

most people didn't give it a chance but I'd say.... Tempest2000 or TempestX3 (the playstation version).

the only game I keep coming back to after all these years, this game really gets me into the "zone" fast and furious hypnotic shooting action !

I'm very surprised Lumines on PSP hasn't been mentioned in this thread. I was hopelessly addicted to it for weeks, played it nearly 24/7 and had moving blocks and lasers in my head when going to bed. I'm not the only person it's happened to, so they must be doing right.

                    OMG!!!!!

Please tell me you can do this with Gamecube PAL version! I would be a happy boy to get Streets of Rage running on my cube!

For my money grab Yoshi's Island and you're sorted (gaming wise!).

There's something wrong with me then, because I didn't think much of it at all to be honest. (and it wasn't that I found it too hard, as some people seemed to) It just didn't seem that good after coming straight from Devil May Cry 3 - if you like your action games, that is a must-buy.

Oh God, don't say that, I don't want them to get any ideas. Now, I didn't like the 3D Castlevanias, but
to have them like God of War? No thanks.

Gotta agree with you; it's the best reason to own a PSP, and the only game I miss now that I've sold mine. (well I'd probably like Loco Roco) It's the best "puzzler" since Tetris, without a doubt, and I'd go as far as saying it's better than Tetris. I can't wait for the 360 version. (as long as they have the original music in there, and not the crap they've demoed it with)

As for suggestions... well, Super Metroid is the best game ever. That's a fact, not my opinion.

If you like that, then you'll probably also like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night on PSone.

Oblivion is probably the best "next gen" game out there just now, despite a few bugs here and there.

Can't think of anything else to recommend off the top of my head right now.

EDIT: Oh, and you should probably also check out Super Castlevania IV - probably the best of the "classic" Castlevanias.

The Panzer series hasn't been given a shout I don't think yet.

Zwei, Saga and Orta are all essential.

                          A couple more.

Psychonauts, Stranger's Wrath, Katamari Damacy, The Sands of Time, Beyond Good & Evil (as mentioned), Eternal Darkness, Killer7, Frequency, Vib Ribbon, Prime, Oblivion, Viewtiful Joe etc. etc.

I'm sure you've probably played many of these. In any case, at this late hour and with a tired mind, these are some which quickly surface if you're looking to add a bit of freshness to the mix.

If you feel guilty not finishing games like i do these days then go for some cheap classic games and you wont feel so bad when you cant be bothered to put 50 hours in.

you find some surprising personal favourites this way too.. mario sunshine, summoner 2 and timesplitters 3 for teh win!!
