Here we go, insult to injury. I can see it now, I move from Dorset to Ealing, and Skill close - someone new takes up the reigns at VGC back in Bournemouth and the prices hit rock bottom

I haven't been in there for a while, but last time I did I picked up a bargain (X-Multiply/Image Fight on PS1 for under £20), and some of the prices had been slashed. Most import new stuff was still ridiculous though. £70 for Vampire Darkstalkers Collection, I mean, please!

Nowhere in Saaarfhaaampton sells imports whatsoever. there is a little shop on Ashley Road in Parkstone, Poole that does a few import things. The place is teeming with NTSC-J N64 games and he even had a mint condition Earthbound when I was last in there. The owner seems a pleasant chap, and I know for a fact he visits this site - I don't know his username though.

I bought my N64 off that robbing *c*u*n*t* when he was selling imports from his house! It was a right dodgy set up.

Theres an ok shop in Sheffield that sells US DS imports generally for ?35, although Elite Beat Agents was ?30. Dont tend to bother getting them from there unless its something i REALLY want.

there is a really good store in Nuneaton thats independent. They sell everything back to the NES and beyond. They have very good sections for all consoles and frequently have saturns, snes's and things like that in stock. also have some nice "top" import titles from the US: IE: DS and Cube games I remember seeing imported frequently there.

Cant remember what it is called though. Quite good prices too.

The best independent retailer is the internet.

Perhaps I'm looking at this a little myopically, but games, electronics and other digital media has a certain connection to online distribution. While the massive chain stores have huge influence on the high-street and do well in online sales, this forum and other gaming sites give huge support to smaller, independent retail markets, whether they be the trading forum, individual professionals like Videogameplus or large-scale but niche providers such as the recently deceased Lik-Sang.

You get what you want, when you want, at the prices you want, and have huge influence upon what is provided.

VGC's console prices were reasonable for a hard to get us import console but the game prices were still quite high ?55 - ?60 for us wii games (especially when places like dvdbo and movietime have them for around ?27).

I like the VGC. Yes the prices on newer games are a tad expensive at times, but most of the old stuff can usually be picked up at a decent amount price, and as has already been pointed out, you can get pretty much anything there.

Both Eynon and Dan are massively keen gamers, and really know their stuff, all in all, if you've not been there for a while check it out.

Also, I've just been made aware of a second hand shop that's opened up in Pokesdown called the next level.

No idea what the content there is like, but I'll try and check it out before I go back to work.

Already mentioned in the thread and it's a great little shop. Proper Alladin's Cave like He also sells quite a few imported Cube games and the odd Jap PS game here and there.

If that's the one by the train station, it's just a run-of-the-mill indie flogging pre-owned games. They didn't have much stock when I visited either but that was a couple of weeks ago.

Anyone else on here from Northern Ireland, specifically Belfast, know of any? I remember one that opened on Ann Street in Belfast around 9 years ago in the PS/N64/Saturn era and was really, really small and only stayed open for a couple of months.

Then there's Replay in Bangor. I bought a few great imports from the guy who runs it back in the day like Parasite Eve (bought his own copy for a cool ?45 IIRC).
They have a Tekken 5 arcade machine in now but don't seem to sell much imports. Just bootleg anime boxsets, manga and PAL stuff

I'm a regular in the VGC and they understand that ?50-60 import prices are a bit of an anachronism now, but unfortunately that's all they can do. When games are available online for pretty much what they pay for them there's no room for them to undercut them. Luckily for them there are plenty of people who will inexplicably pay that much for the games. When Gears came out they sold out of US copies at ?60 a time, and this was only a week before the UK release. You should see their prices on new import consoles, and I know they've sold out several batches.

In any case it's a great shop. They have loads of retro stuff that they'll usually do you a good deal on, and although certain members of the staff can be a bit pompous over their gaming tastes (*cough*) they know their stuff. I buy all my PAL stuff there just because I'd like to keep a place like that around, lest Game be all we have without going online.

This news just in: I will be in VGC today about 2-3 if anyone is around and wants to actually see me in person and that. Nekofever is going to perform a favour for me hopefully

Gah, I'd come done (it's only a five minute drive) but I've run out of cash

I've told you before. I'm not sucking your cock again unless you clean it. Those flakey bits got stuck between my teeth last time.

Seriously though, when you going down again?
