    DS Emulators

Ok I'm sure there are a lot of emulators out there you guys know of so any info would be great. I'm basically new to the whole hand-held emulation scene so don't know jack about anything though I'm fully aware of how emulation works on a PC. Are there any decent MD, SNES, GBA emulators for the DS? And if so, how the hell do I get started? Do I need to DS/PC USB connectivity?

You won't get anything working on a DS without one of these but they're pretty much only good for running GBA-based NES or Spectrum emulators.

There's hardly any substantial homebrew software for the DS besides the usual geeky stuff like Linux and useless little walkie-talkie programs.

There's a very good port of ScummVM for the DS. Obviously given the control scheme it's an excellent format for the old point-and-click adventures and just proves that LucasArts is really missing an opportunity for a proper DS compilation.

If picodrive is anything like the mobile phone version then thats worth a shot. If mobile phone can emulate a megadrive the ds must be able to. Also the gba had a few resnoble snes emulators, snesadvance being one, so again the ds should in theory do the job?

Cheers for the feedback guys. Looks like the DS still has a long way to go till it catches up with the like of PSP emulation. Then again thats just my opinion.

Oh yeah the DS might not have the edge on PSP as far as emulators go, but the homebrew programming scene is as good if not better, especially with fps ports like
              http://heretic.drunkencoders.com/
              and
              http://www.telefragged.com/thefatal/...=inc_si_ds.htm (hexen ds)

making decent use of the touch screen. QuakeDS has been blogged, but no release as of yet.

The real clincher is that -price of the machines aside- DS is always going to be the easier option for running homebrew/emu's without worrying about firmware restrictions.

It says on the website: "These are distributed as "roms" as they're commonly known, so you can try playing them in a DS emulator (good luck!) or if you have the means you can play them on real hardware."

Means meaning flash cards or summit?

Yeah, you need a GBA flash cart to store the emulator, and then either a PassMe or one of the custom firmwares which allows you to boot DS code from the GBA slot. They may have flashable DS cards or a more elegant way to do it now (haven't really been following the scene) but that was how it worked when I was dabbling.
