I got my OXM in the mail today, and the 360 demo on the disk was for Saint's Row. Now, I should say, I'm not the biggest GTA fan on the planet. I have nothing against the series, and I enjoyed GTA 3 quite a bit, but Vice City really didn't do it for me, and San Andreas did even less. So, I booted up Saint's Row with little enthusiasm and expectation. Luckily, I came out of really impressed.
Yes, it is a huge ripoff of the GTA games. The control scheme is damn near identicle, even down to Y being the Jack The Car button. And, the way the map is laid out and the stores that are available to you are lifted straight from Rockstar's games. But, and perhaps it was just because this game had graphics that completely bitchslapped anything in the previous GTA games, but I thought this was the better game (for a demo, that is). I thought it was fluid, I was never left wondering what I should be doing, the voice acting was spot on (they even have Keith David doing the voice for your gang leader, and that man has one of the smoothest voices in Hollywood), and the combat was fun (though, unlike GTA, there is no lock-on feature).
Anyway, the game could end up being a mess, but I don't see how. It was incredibly polished, and I can't wait to get the full version.
