sure i poste dthis yesterday but oh well here goes again

The edge review of gta3 was very positive and if you read the text it really dident tally up to the score at the bottom of the page therefore i reckon yeah it was a typo they have never been know to go back on scores even where theyre being controvesal with stuff, that said dont let the facts get in the way of a good story dude, carry on

Reviews aren't particularly awful in Edge - it's just when games aren't sign-posted before release as being superb quality they're often slightly off the boil in giving potential future classics deserved props.

      Orta. Virtua Fighter 4: Evo.

Oh yeah, and more recently Oblivion.

I mean... I have my own problems with that game but it isn't an eight. Not in a million years.

But then, that'd be opinions for you.

Most reviews here get 6,7 and 8 too. But our 5/10 is still a good score. Use our review search to filter to 5/10 games and there are very few there that you would consider "poor" (although no one gets scores right all the time so I'm sure a few slipped through the net). Edge operate the same method. Most gamers who read reviews don't read Edge (or ntsc-uk) and those who do should know what to expect from a score and will also probably get more out of the text than the score. I read some of the reviews on here. I would say that the majority of gaming press gives games they consider to be average scores of 6 and 7 out of 10. 5 out of 10 normally implies that a game is for fans of the genre only. I will bear your post in mind in future when I read reviews on here.

It seems I am not alone. Here is a quote from the Goku Makaimura thread in the First Play forum.

          "
Played it for all of half hour and sold it to my mate...its frustrating as hell. I know the arcade version was hard but this is just stupid. Its not enjoyable, and on my psp it just looked to dark with blurring evrywhere.

Overall i was not impressed at all.....5/10

          "

Anyway, I have posted before that I stopped taking the Edge reviews seriously when they became cliche contests instead of descriptions of games, IMO. Take the Outrun 200 review, which went along the lines of "a gift to its hardware's often-neglected fresh air, and an idyllic blast of Sega-branded fresh air" without mentioning the heart-to-heart or flagman modes at all. But we're getting away from the issue of this month's scores. I think the Tekken score was too low.

Since being a regular EDGE reader and realising their scores make the most sense I normally feel along these lines:

Any really good game will score 7, 8 or 9 for the best of the best.
5 or 6 will be a disapointment but has redeeming features.
10 will only be attainable every few years and the game in question will be epic!
Anything below 5 is below avrage and I wont get much enjoyment from them.

Nothing between disappointment with redeeming features and really good game then?

I liked the phrase "realising their scores make the most sense". Hopefully I will someday have an epiphany, and be enlightened, as you are

Well obvously but I'm not bothered. Read the review to find out the facts if you are.

The R-Type final article gets a bit chin-strokey in places but makes the hairs on the back of my stand on end.

Didn't really get the 'Bad Day LA' review. 4 seemed to be on a par with that bug-ridden PC FPS with the rock in it, score-wise, but the main complaints seemed to be that the collision detection was a bit rubbish and the voice action was bad. Boo hoo! I'm still gonna keep an eye out for it.

My Sub copy came back today along with 360 Mag. God the 360 mag is so bias its untrue . Get this becasue Half Life II and Fear are coming to the 360 it's the end of the PC as we now it LMFAO.

I just don't get EDGE review of Prey Or Tekken either. Prey is the kind of game EDGE would slag off a few months ago, and so what if there's a Tekken inthe Arcade or home, that shouldn't come into it when reviewing the PSP version
