It appears that Nintendo were indeed the winners of the 16bit generation considering most peoples favourite games were on the snes.

Someone mentioned Flashback, and I would also add that to my list.

Console....? Damn, that's hard. Sonic 2 is very high on the list, but as the Neo Geo is 16-Bit, it has to be King of Fighters 98 at the moment.

I was tempted to say Metal Slug 3, but as it is still quite new for me I thought I better see if I will still be playing it in a couple of years.

Ristar (aka Ristar the Shooting Star) on the Genesis/MD or Sonic CD on the Mega CD. Probably Ristar, because of the excellent music, graphics, idea and overall great use of the hardware.

Ah...the choice of a true connoisseur, only matched possibly by SF2Turbo. Two gems in a much mined coalface...

Flashback on the mega drive - the pinnacle of 2d platforming combined with amazing polygon cinematics (for the time) great voice acting (including lip sinc!!)

Not only did it require perfect timing but brains as well - getting two guards to shoot each other by hanging from a ledge in betweent them and dropping/climbing back up a the right moment

Clock another one up for Metroid 3. Truly the king of kings.

I think Zelda is a much better single player action RPG, but Secret of Mana with two (or even better three) like minded players is gaming nirvana .

I have 2 i find it hard to choose between:

Streets of Rage 2 and Sonic 2 so i'll just leave em both in here

Super Mario Kart for the tracks, handling, and sheer joy of multiplayer.
Sensible World of Soccer - still unbeatable IMHO.
The Settlers - A brilliant game for simply wasting a few hours, tweaking your settlement.
Civilisation 2 - I've lost months to this game.

I'm surprised they haven't been mentioned yet, for me it's a toss up between FF3 and Chrono Trigger. These (especially Chrono trigger) really stretched the SNES to it's limits.
