I'm gonna have to go for two, mostly because they are both so good, and I can't choose between the two.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - Best sonic game ever.
Zelda: A Link to The Past - The best Zelda game ever, and the only one that I have properly enjoyed.

          That would be Contra III.

Gotta be Zelda: A Link to the past. Reliving the joys on the GBA.

Secret of Mana comes a close second though

Zelda: LttP - You don't actually need me to explain do you?
Sonic 2 - Great speed, levels, and the best music of the series.
Super Mario World - Again, no explanation needed.
Final Fantasy 5 - Ok, ok, I downloaded it, but it's so damned good! The best music in a 16 bit game, and the job system is the best "gimmick" in the entire series (beats junctioning anyways).

There's no way I'm going to choose between them.

Am i the only one with true taste in games?? Clearly Shining Force 2 on the mega drive was by far the best 16bit game because it was so damned good, still is today.

Although i do admit mario kart is a close second.

Impossible to choose just one I'm afraid.

Super Mariokart - SNES - The number of clones speaks volumes.
Super Marioworld - SNES - Videogame crack. I couldn't rest until I'd found all 96 levels.
Super Smash TV - SNES - Still gets played on the reg, as does Robotron. One day I will build a twin sticks controller. One day.
Street Fighter 2 - SNES (honourable mention to the MD version which is also excellent)
Gunstar Heroes - MD - Oof. Pure excellence. Pisses all over Contra.

little list! for me its impossible to pick "just the one".

                      super metroid
                      super mario world
                      mario kart
                      area 88
                      street fighter 2 turbo
                      chrono trigger

there you have it my fav two out of these are super metroid and chrono trigger, but the others are oh so close behind!
i did play megadrive games a bit but apart from sonic and streets of rage 2 there wasn't anything that really floated my boat
well i was spoilt by ninty

Bomberman (the first one) for the SNES

Wasted many hours with 3 mates on this classic game.

I'd probably have to go with SMW on the snes, it was just perfect.

SF2 Turbo, Actraiser, Contra, Strider, Sonic all honourable mentions.

Does anyone remember Wrestleball on the MD? I used to prefer it to Speedball 2 but noone I mention it to as ever heard of it????

Maybe it's just me, but try as I did, I disliked the Mario games after the one-screen original - until Yoshi's Island, that is my favourite 16-bit title and what brought me back to platformers.

MD - Castle of Illusion, Gunstar Heroes, Landstalker, Thunder Force 4, Wonderboy 5

Snes - Chrono Trigger, Contra Spirit, Final Fantasy 6, Goemon Fight 1 & 2, Super Ghouls'n Ghost, Super Mario Kart, Tales of Phantasia, Zelda 3

I'd never be able to choose only one from those. They're all my all times favorites.
