I guess so, he must have broken them all in the process because none of them were in his hidey-hole when the US national assasin squad came in!

surely, the main time the processing power will be used is when people aren't actually using their consoles? Hows that gonna fit in with Tony Blairs plans to ban "stand by" on electrical appliances in the UK (and possibly the EU)? More worryingly than curing cancer, how am I gonna get mail on animal crossing on my Wii? :O

I just don't really see how it's gonna work tho personally. Is it gonna cause games to stutter because I know it cains the hell outta my PC and I have to stop it if I play any games, which is what I'd want to do with a PS3 if it was turned on...

Yeah you say it's bollocks now Wools. But, as a man, your chances of getting cancer are about 50%. One of these days you might be thankful you bought a PS3. It may just save your life.

why is this so humerous, its not a PS3 just 'cell'..seems pretty serious business. here's hoping it can help in fighting diseases and such.

it's the lamest marketing scam i've ever heard of. every time sony says something it just sounds bloody ridiculous - first they cuss the 360's dual price point and then copy (and muff up) ms's idea, then they cuss the wii and then copy (and muff up) nintendo's idea, then they accuse vibration of not being that good (whereas when they released the dual shock they were saying how amazingly immersive it is).

now they're using the ps3 to help in the fight against cancer. are they bundling this software with their vaio range of pc's and laptops? if not, why the hell not?

i mean, there's nothing stopping microsoft or, indeed, nintendo (who would be prime candidates, given their touting of the wii's ability to do stuff in that semi-standby mode) releasing similar software to do the same thing - we're doing it already with our pc's and not a cell cpu in sight.

Sony is using this medical project as a PR stunt. It's distasteful, cynical and degrading.

Because the media is reporting that the PS3's cell processor is in this brave fight. Sony are using this good will in effort to get the PS3 brand out there. It's like someone who gives to charity but must let everyone know that they have, compared to someone who gives but is dignified.

So is the fight agaist Alzheimer's and other diseases humourous? Not at all, it's important and brillant work. But what Sony have made public is not humourous, it's disgusting and should be rightly mocked. ft:

                            shut up honestly..

                            everything a conspiracy or marketing..

you have just read quotes from people who obviously know what they are dealing with, speaking about it capabilities of thousands of trillions calculations per second or what not and even being shown demonstrations of capabilities

for once in your life wait and see.. you really didnt read the article comparing it with the Wii... it's cell processor not PS3.. dont really know how, but Cell chips can be networked\bundled together in hundreds.

so this is blatantly possible !

My problems with this is simply down to Sony making this public and rather than reporting along the line's of "New technology has been made avaliable to scientists from Sony to help reasearch cure's for diseases." it's gone with "PlayStation 3 to combat the world's ills"

Wheter the BBC went from this angle or Sony did I don't know but it's so hard to read an article when it feel's like PR.
