according to Amazon.com it's out on march, 31. my guess is we wont see it untill november 2007 - but i would be comfortable with an earlier release of course

Quite clearly a mock-up. You can tell from the way its been cobbled together, the E3 2006 trailer assets cut and pasted from screens, and the black background behind the Halo text. Oh, and the awful glow around the Master Chief.

As for the boxart. Other passing observations...

The lack of a sky, the excessive blur around the logo, and the white fart which seems to be up-shooting from Master Chief's arse all indicate homemadedness.

If I could be bothered, I'd do a crappy MS Paint pastiche of that cover to show just how silly thinking that's actual final artwork actually is.

mate, are you serious about this comment? Halo 2's box art surely is an improvement over it's predecessor but i think it's still far from stylish or elegant. but this is of course only to my taste.

Clearly a mock up...a retarded circus chimp could have told you that. Hardly worth the processor time used to create this thread. Plus all this box art talk is a little GameFAQs isn't it? I mean all I ever see is the spine of the damn thing, I don't really care how the front cover looks and it bares no relation to the quality of the game.

To be fair, judging from previous box arts, I think that mock up is a pretty good one.
That doesn't mean it's nice, it just means the other two were pap also.
