OPS2 Magazine. Don't you just love it?

Wow another fun packed issue. Just love their reviews:-

Disgaea 2 - 7 (with a whole quarter page review!)
Raiden III - 3 (must be nearly 60 words in this review)
Atelier Iris 2 - 6 (review almost gives some indication what the games about)
Ultimate GnG - 5 (?)

These reviews just beg me to ask......Do they actually play these games!!!!

BTW, FIFA obviously gets a 9.

I bought OPSM2 the other month for the first time in years. Magazine went straight in the bin, but you can't complain with demos of Siren 2, Yakuza and Lego Starwars II.

Know doubt those 'reviews' included the phrase '2d rubbish' *sighs..* edit-cant belive 3 for raiden 3 and 5 for ug'n'g.

I stopped getting this mag about a year and a half ago when they employed 15 year olds to write the reviews and features, plastering 'totty' everywhere. A mag totally lacking any appreciation of niche games, and in love with the hype machine. I'm pretty sure their circulation figures have plummeted since (Im positive it used to get 300,000, now ABC have it down as 100,000) Utter turd.

TBH, the UGnG review sounds fair to me, I've not actually played it in too much depth, but the first lvl seems awfully familiar - the graphics have seen no sparkle to make the game stand out all that much from the original and its just the same overly frustrating gameplay from those many moons ago when I encountered the original.

If i can remember the official psone mag reviewd castlevania wayyy back and gave it something like 6/10, also remeber them mumbling something about psone being the future of 3d gaming and 2d should be in the past and not on psone!

I probally could not play most of those games so they would get a low mark from me!

What do you expect? They have to toe the party line: remember when SNK recently complained that a number of their 2D releases (including SVC Chaos) were refused releases in the US by Sony because they didn't meet "graphical standards"?

Sorry for the rant, but if you expect anything from an official magazine you're going to be disappointed. With the honourable exceptions of the late great NMS and Official Saturn Magazine, of course.

Used to buy that magazine, but since it was going downhill i stopped buying it. Now i buy the Official Benelux PS2 Mag, and they like strange games allot there. Altough it's a official magazine, they don't do console bashing, and thats something you don't see allot in official magazines.
