My fear is that this game will suffer from the "Kojima Syndrome". Hours of cut-scenes merely put in the game because the producers are so darn proud of them, while actual gameplay is only 40% of the total game time.

So, the PS3 version... Does it get all teh DLC? Not sure whats exclusive. Is there any point getting the play.com exclusive when amazon is a fiver cheaper? and HMV

      Comment

The PS3 version only get's one exclusive case for free, there's loads of other pre-order cases that you can get with different shops offering a different case on both formats. All the cases will be available to buy fairly early on though.

No mention of whether the PS3 case will be DLC or just something that's included as standard, I'd imagine they'd only give it way with new copies of the game using an included code.

Rockstar have been very quiet concerning specific details about almost everything which is slightly worrying, hopefully details will start being released this week as they're running out of time. Having said that, there are a few previews available which all seem to sound very positive about the game.

A few details of the two soundtracks that will be available for the game...

The L.A. Noire Official Soundtrack was inspired by the sweeping orchestral scores of the great films of the 1940s. This all-original score was recorded in London?s legendary Abbey Road Studios and composed by Andrew Hale, of the band Sade and Sweetback and whose credits include scores for such films as Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. The soundtrack also features modern takes on the classic torch songs of the period. Three original vocal recordings were created for the soundtrack, all produced and written by Stephen Coates (of The Real Tuesday Weld) and featuring the guest vocals of Claudia Brucken (of Propaganda). Additional music was composed for the score by Woody Jackson, who won multiple awards for his work with Bill Elm on the original score of Red Dead Redemption.

Players will also hear over 30 classic licensed jazz tracks in the game itself, including songs from such greats as Billie Holiday, Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong and Thelonious Monk.

L.A. Noire Remixed is the fruit of a partnership with Verve Records that provides a modern take on the music found throughout the world of L.A. Noire. This unique EP is a collection of six jazz standards re-interpreted by some of today's most acclaimed DJs, producers and remixers, including Dave Sitek, DJ Premier and Truth & Soul.

L.A. Noire Remixed and the L.A. Noire Official Soundtrack will be available for purchase on iTunes on May 17th, and look for song previews and additional information to be released at www.rockstargames.com/lanoire next week.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is more like CSI: Noire with the odd bit of action here and there. Most of the time you'll be investigating crime scenes and interviewing witnesses. And just like those crime dramas, that prospect really doesn't appeal to me.

That's what I'm worried about don't know if i would get bored

Believe me, I would love those above statements to be not true, but I have an inkling that it will be the case. Just hope L.A. Noire proves me wrong.

Story can only carry a game so far.
It's the gameplay system mechanics that keep you coming back to it.

It's a cop drama ffs, this appeals to me A LOT I hope there isn't too much action in it as it would cheapen the experience. The action needs to be rare but powerful. Hopefully the investigations are as interesting as they have the potential to be.

and while I'm posting - have a launch trailer
Rockstar's released the launch trailer for LA Noire ahead of its launch next week. Watch it below the break.

Team Bondi have said a while ago that 80% of the game contains no action scenes, it will concentrate primarily on detective type work. They have said that there will of course be some action scenes but they can be skipped if people want to.

The closest comparison to other games seems to be to Heavy Rain but Team Bondi stated that this plays at an even slower pace than that, one preview case that I've read about lasted an hour but only contained five minutes of what could be classed as traditional action scenes.

It sounds perfect to me be but a lot of people are probably going to be disappointed if they're expecting the sort of traditionally mainstream game that Rockstar often publish when all along Team Bondi have said otherwise. It is worth remembering that although everywhere seems to advertise this as a Rockstar game, they merely publish it.

                EDIT:
To put off some more people, there's an interview concerning the game in today's
Guardian which people may want to read.

It's a good thing that L.A. Noire is going to be a slow-paced adventure game, there's already plenty of sandbox action shooters out there. Hats off to Team Bondi/Rockstar for daring to do something different.

The surprising slow pace of the game is welcomed by this ageing gamer. Really looking forward to this one.

Yep, definitely going to be a lot of dissapointed purchasers, me I can't wait to live in 47 \o/

I dont know, I mean personaly I havent read much about the game and i'm still expecting an adventure game, not an action game, I dont see why other people would be expecting an action game at all.

Also, you have to remember that although its not developed by them the name "Rockstar" is plastered on the box, which means people will be buying it for its open world structure (which I presume it has, without relaly being a sandbox type environment) and the fact that theres alot of swearing in it (which I also presume it has). I'm not sure fans of games like GTA and Red Dead Redemption actualy care much about gameplay.

If they've seen any of the TV ads they might...

I expected this to be an action game, but now that I think about it I don't know why I expected that (perhaps because it's Rockstar)? I'm actually more interested in it now that I know it's not.

Or the launch trailer which is about 80% shooting, car chases or punching someone to the face.

                              Oh those marketing guys.

Imagine the look on Little Timmy's face when he finds out he has to perform forensics analysis and dust fingerprints instead of mowing countless gangsters down with a Tommy gun.

It is a problem though. I teach at a high school and the conversations I hear about the game is always "GTA in the 40s"

I never realised it wasnt either til reading it here! Still looking forward to it, probably even more.
