When it comes down to it my vote'll be for SF6, but I also chose Wonder here because that is also very bloody good.

I also played/enjoyed from this list:
Season: A Letter to the Future
    Super Mario RPG
    A Space for the Unbound
    Theatrhythm: Final Bar Line
    Venba

    Also still to play:
    Samba de Amigo: Party Central
    Slay the Princess
    Sea of Stars
    Thirsty Suitors
Talos Principle 2 (still to play 1 though...)

At the beginning of the year, I full expected Starfield to at least be among the GOTY contenders, if not the winner outright. As the year comes to an end, it's ultimately been outshined by lots of games, not least SF6 and Wonder here, which turned out to be a late surprise. I've voted for both here, because they're both excellent, but I think SF6 probably comes out on top.

Mario Wonder on this one for me, it throws just enough new out there to win me over for the round. Starfield, I did enjoy even if it's a very simple run through the Bethesda blueprint rather than anything outstanding. The only other games of note I've played are Spider-Man 2 (which really is quite DLCish, though solid) and SF6 (which controversially I don't quite get the adoration for. I enjoyed it more than SF5 but it also largely felt like 'more' rather than anything that made an impression and the adventure mode did little for me either).

Starfield was an enjoyable enough game, it certainly doesn't deserve to be getting the overwhelming negative reviews on Steam it has (and certainly not be placed in Jim Sterling's Worst Games of 2023, if you couldn't find a worse game to include, you weren't trying very hard) - but it's no Skyrim, a game I still go back to, so I couldn't pick it as GOTY contender when BG3 exists.

Yeah it's missing that accessibility that makes Skyrim great. It's a very different game due to the whole planetry exploration... I loved it in the end but it did sag for me in the middle and I didn't fully appreciate it until ng+ kicks in and everything is revealed.

It's a solid 8/10 for me but I do wonder if it'll steadily improve over time with the DLC and mods because there's huge scope for what can be done in that (huge) universe.
