    Best Olympics games?

Off the top of my head my brain goes straight to Konami's International Track & Field (which was mind blowing to me at the time). I also imagine some of those who had Sega Saturns at the time would say Decathlete (something I've only played a little).

Now the Olympics is going on (Paris 2024). What you reckon are the best games?

I'm actually more interested in those officially licensed games. Were there any good ones? Are they still readily available to play now?

I think you're looking at IT&F and Decathlete still being the best of those kinds of games, IMO.

There were the officially licensed "Mario & Sonic at The Olympics" games for all Summer and Winter Olympiads between 2008 and 2020 but they are a mixed bag at best.

If memory serves me correctly Daley Thompson’s Decathlon, Summer Games 2 and World Games in the C64 hold many a treasured memories from my youth when my brother and other family members would waggle a joystick and mash a button frantically in front of the TV for hours…

I don’t think I have the energy or the skin these days to mash buttons anymore.

Olympic style games have always been a collection of mini games in my opinion. I’m surprised no one has made an RPG around the Olympic Games…

Daley Thompson's Decathlon was one of the first games I played competitively against my brother and dad. We would slug it out for those WR.

And yeah, fast forward 10 years we went at it again in IT&F. You would know a new WR had occurred when you saw the dreaded PS1 memory card on the mantle... Then you only had to spot the smuggest of faces to know who broke it lol. Good times.

Daley Thompson's Decathlon was one of the earliest Spectrum games that I remember playing. Can still remember the (bloody awful) music!

Got to be Track and Field in the arcades... I still remember watching older guys competing on it when on holiday in France.

They'd rest their cigarettes on the edge of the machine and actually warm up before each event.

Is anyone old enough to remember First Class with it's sprinkles of Hyper Sports, Paperboy and 720?

Decathalete and I still couldn't tell you why, the 'genre' has never been greta but sometimes something just has a touch of magic to it

Track & Field is a classic and that goes without saying.

I do think that hudson is talking about more modern games of that ilk though.

It's been confirmed that Tokyo 2020 was the final game in the "Mario & Sonic at The Olympics" series.

Also, fun fact: This is the first time in 30 years that there hasn't been a console videogame released in conjunction with the Summer Olympics.

Decathlon (Activision) on the C64 was my favourite. More 'realistic' than the Daley Thomson game, and without the interminable inter-event loading that was required by the - admittedly, visually superior - Epyx games (especially painful on tape, but bad enough on disk).

Winter Heat on the Saturn was very good.

Ones i remember the most from the 16bit days was Summer Challenge on the mega drive with its mortal kombat like sprites and Horse Riding event, an odd collection of events with barely any track races... i think just Hurdles made it in.

Other than that first International Track and Field on the psone which i had and Decathalete on my friends Saturn, both very good games.
