Just booted up Dragon's Dogma 2 using 'Prioritize Graphics' mode. Now I can play the game in its best outfit without having to skimp out on frames. Very happy.

This is the type of stuff I like messing around with. Like on a PC, but at heart - I am a console codger. Yeah, this has a ridiculous price, but if you love your PS5, but got slightly dicked on some games with regards to performance (mostly 3rd party stuff) and couldn't live that 4K dream (I really wasn't too arsed with swapping pixels for frames), oh and have the disposable funds, then this is a nice "mid-gen refresh" machine.

Watch me get double dicked when Monster Hunter Wilds drops...

EDIT: Then I tried Dead Rising DR. A game I recently completed. Instantly I notice Frank's reflection in glass. This wasn't there before.

Year i played DragonsDogma2 as well last night, runs like a hobbled donkey in res mode even with pro extra power & PSSR, performance mode with PSSR was buttery though, and that’s all i personally care about.

Looking forward to getting stuck into this at last.

To me, the lack of lights would be a positive. I ****ing hate how every bit of tech has to have crappy LEDs on. When I turn my lights off I want it to be dark, dammit. I bought a small dehumidifier the other day and it’s got a light on. I can turn it off, but shame this is the default (needs switching off every time).

Ok, Spider Man 2, in fidelity pro mode, with vrr uncapped and everything on high, is just chef’s kiss.

          Bravo Insomniac, bravo!

Year I get this, but I really like the blue line that follows for OG model around the console, it was just a small aesthetic thing they did that always sat right with me on a day to day basis.

Maybe you could stick some lights on there. 🤷🏽

The missus said it's been a very difficult week this week with all her work stuff going on.
We need to be really careful with money too.

                    ...

                    We're collecting it tomorrow.

Gooood, gooooooooooooooood, feed your hatred and join me against MS, I mean the dark side.

Besides, if things are tight the kids can always cut back on food and you can trade their stuff in, shrugs.

Some thoughts and findings. Not sure if I originally got the wrong end of the stick regarding the aim of the Pro. I foolishly thought I was going to run games in those Quality modes that I never choose due to 30FPS, but that doesn't seem to have changed with the majority of titles. You are still trading off pixels with frames and vice versa. What I haver noticed (and maybe this is where I got mixed up?) is that the Performance modes tend to look crisp. Although Perf modes come with 'Quality' features turned off etc, so yeah, crisp picture on 4K screen (less smear) in perf modes. I guess this is the USP, the PSSR. If this ends up cleaning up the image of Monster Hunter Wilds' perf mode, then I will be very happy. For now though, it's like the frame rate boost isn't the thing, it's the fidelity of the image after gone through PSSR, which is impressive. Obviously, first party titles give you more granular graphics options, Ratchet, Spidey etc, but youll still find Quality mode being 30FPS. Performance modes look loads better than on base PS5.

Pretty much yeah, I think the jist is that Performace mode acts as the core mode and devs will patch in Pro support so it can add to that base with more of the Quality setting bells and whistles. Still downloading all my games again so not tested it yet

That’s what I’ve found as well, Performance mode now has better image quality and resolution, while remaining at 60, or higher is some cases, at least in 1st party titles.

Mileage is going to vary dramatically with 3rd party unfortunately as usual.

edit. Horizon Zero Dawn remastered looks absolutely stunning running at 60, just stonking.
