When it Critmus in video games (screenshots and videos one and all!)

Christmas is just around that pile of polygons. I feel like one of Santa's reindeers should be called 'Pixel'. I imagine when Santa's sleigh dives down towards your house, the world approaches Santa in Mode7.

But ignore all that nonsense I've just typed and show me some xmas cheer that could be found inside our beloved video games!

As I got Shenmue on UK release in December and there was no other game like it, it's very closely tied to Christmas for me.

Yessir! A game that used to make me hungry.

The Shenmue xmas vibes make me warm and fuzzy!

Shenmue has a special place in the memory bank at Christmas for me, pure nostalgia crack.

                  It's lovely, isn't it.

Not only is the game set around Christmas, has in-game specific events (FREE! Snow!) for the season, but also has an odd melancholy to the music. Combine that with my own feelings of playing Shenmue back in the year 2000, a scarily unbelievable 24 years ago now, where I'm nostalgic for not only that time in my life with my family, but also the game itself is set within the confines of the beautiful Dreamcast and gaming during an era that won't ever be recaptured. With Sega at both their glorious best, and the sunset of their creative diversions.

The day the snow, turned to rain...

I always remember GT5 on the PS3, putting it on on Christmas Day and I couldn't believe it was playing really nice jazzy Christmas menu music. I used to put it on every year whilst I had the console.

I'm another one who got Shenmue on the UK release, I actually bought mine on Boxing Day so it's permanently stuck in my mind as a Christmas memory. The game doesn't start in Christmas and it takes some time before the decorations actually appear in Dobuita Street (about mid December I think?), so the first time I saw the decorations was heading home after a shift on the forklifts, hearing music playing from shops and seeing the signs and garlands up whilst going down to the Tomato to get some stuff for the cat.

When you're playing The Division in the Christmassy streets you can sometimes hear this...
