EBAY: Listing restrictions for pre-sale Sony PlayStation 3 consoles and games

    http://www2.ebay.com/aw/uk/200611150746562.html

    15 November, 2006 | 07:47AM GMT

We wanted to let you know about some restrictions that will be placed on pre-sales of the Sony Playstation 3 console and games. To protect the whole eBay community, sellers will not be permitted to list PlayStation 3 consoles and games on eBay.co.uk until the authorised European pre-sales period begins in February 2007. Once the official pre-sales period has begun, eBay.co.uk will also be asking sellers to comply with the following requirements: 1. You may only offer one PlayStation 3 console.
    2. If you are pre-selling a console, your listing must comply with our Pre-Sale Listings Policy. You must guarantee that the item will be available for dispatch within 30 days of the date it is listed on ebay.co.uk.
    3. You must offer PayPal as the only payment option. The item must qualify for PayPal Buyer Protection.
    4. You may only offer a PlayStation 3 console that you obtained within the EU. PlayStation 3 consoles obtained outside of the EU cannot be listed on eBay.co.uk.
    5. Your listing must include a photo of your purchase or pre-order receipt. We recommend that you block out any personal information such as credit card numbers on the receipt to make sure that they aren?t visible on the photo.

Our top priority is to ensure that eBay remains a safe and reputable place to buy and sell. Please be aware that we may take action against your account if your listing doesn?t comply with these guidelines.

    Regards,
    The eBay.co.uk Team

    Is it working though?

Loads of PS3's up for postage to Europe, non paypal and at ridiculous prices.

Yes because the message is so if/when the lawyers come a knocking they can say "we told them so and we tried our bestest but our SQL just wasn't up to the job".

      It won't change anything I don't think.

I don't care how much the PS3 is costing people, anyone trying to sell one here for anything over the rrp will have their sales threads removed.

Fleecers are killing the console launches, and those who say things like 'I bought two, one to keep and one to sell at a profit' are just as bad as those people who end up on ebay with 100 units.

Personally I don't think you can blame the sellers. People have always taken advantage of limited supply to make large profits on anything desirable. I think it is just a worse problem in the video game space, as there are enough suckers within this hobby, to keep all the profiters in business paying the stupid prices they ask for ! If everyone refused to pay anything but RRP then this issue would not exist.

I'm surprised Ebay are taking such a stance on the PS3 - where was this attitude during the 360 launch, when people bought what they thought was a console and ended up with a pile of bricks in a box or simply just the empty box?

After I was fleeced with a dodgy graphics card last year, I'm no longer making any ebay related purchases over ?50, regardless of how clean the reputation of the seller.

If you read the statement though, it's only during pre sale. Once the PS3 hits the shelves in the EU people will be able to do whatever they like!
Personally I think if Sony put as much effort into making the bloody things then as they have in suing the ass off people then maybe we wouldn't be here would we?

It's because of the 360 launch that eBay are doing this supposedly.

Btw Paypal Buyer protection only covers up to ?500 value so I'm not sure any of the people proposing to sell it for more will come under it anyhow.

thats a load of **** mate. if sony made enough of them in the first place then the artificial demand would never of caused this sort of thing. cant blame the sellers for wanting to make a fast buck when the parent company has inflated the situation to begin wiht....

I am not blaming anyone - all I am saying is that anyone wanting to sell a PS3 for over the recommended retail price should do so elsewhere since they won't be doing it here. We did the same thing for the PSP and Xbox360 launches and will do the same thing for the Wii.

Isn't this just people pre-selling the ps3. Not people shifting them from US/Japan.

As for people reselling, good luck to them. If people wanted the console so bad they'd have one pre-ordered already. THB we got the same argument last year with the 360. Some people got upset cos their december pre-order wasn't delivered.

I don't recall anyone selling new consoles here above RRP since the launch of the PSP, so wouldn't expect to see it with the PS3.

It does seem with every console release the idea is to short supply and create an atmosphere of 'It must be great cos it's sold out'.

Why is this being applauded by the board?

This is supporting the Sony action, which was universally opposed. Ebay are offering an exchange service, cutting this option out further reduces the opportunity to get releases.

I can understand the boards stance on rrp to an extent, should this be extended to selling retro for over the original rrp?

because people are gonna charge ?1000+ for ps3's and poor sods desperate enough for one will pay it.

Because it's basically saying people can't sell more than one PS3, and they must be able to post the item out within a month of the auction, so reducing fraud and scamming opportunities.
