    Wipeout

Has this been confirmed as in development ??? Is it due out or does it not even exist ? I'm assuming it's a cert but given dev costs and the fact I have no idea how well pure sold I'm just wondering - Is it the same lot that are doing the F1 game?

Think Wipeout is due March(ish) next year.

EDIT: nothing on PA or gamefaqs, and can't remember where I read it. Must be in development though.

      Boo! F-Zero is better!

I've not heard anything yet mate. The series kind of died on the PS2 but then got back on track with the PSP version so who knows!?

Yeah I had March in my head too but it seems a bit strange that there is nothing anywhere on the web about it (that I can find anyway).

I would've expected to have seen it in some shape or form by now.....

Selix - I know - I'm just asking cos I'm unsure I won't be buying one for it or anything - For my money Quantum Redshift was the last great future racer

And here was me thinking the folk on here knew what they were talking about

          From http://www.datascope.co.uk/scee/

"The Wipeout Team are looking for an experienced Network User Interface Programmer to take control of the lobby, ladders and other client/server front end systems. The candidate must have good C/C++ skills and at least one published title. Knowledge of HTML, Java, Tomcat & JSP is a requirement and experience with SCE-RT would be an advantage."
The next wipeout will be online 'out of the box'

If there is online ghost downloads and record tables I will be taking 6 months off work

Wipeout PS3 is my No.1 title im looking forward to

Ah - Fatal Inertia - That'll be why there's nothing to be found anywhere about this other than speculation it's coming.

I hope ol' SCEE know what they're talking about after the dismal effort they made of Fusion on the PS2 which seemed only to 'fuse' frames together.

I'll never forget the boast from the devs extolling the virtues of the 49 parameters in (at the time next-gen) Fusion which affected the craft's handling as opposed to the PS1's 7 parameters. Hoho give us back those 'piddling' 7 parameters I say.

Good luck to them I say. If they can replicate the PS1's handling model and fuse it with next-gen graphics and handling they're onto a winner with me.

Wipeout on the PSP was similar to the PS1 model, wasnt it?

Not really. A massive improvement on Fusion and the game in general was excellent but, in terms of being similar to PS1 physics and handling, nope. It wasn't. Still a great game though.

Bash = PS1 physics were best in '2097' I reckon.

The original WipEouT was a bit unforgiving insofar as hitting a wall would bring the craft to a standstill pretty much but as a result it was rock 'ard to play.

2097 introduced the ability to skim the walls without losing speed.

WipEouT 3 is considered the best handling model by many, but it's a close thing with 2097.

WipEouT 64 on the N64 upped the handling even more with the analogue stick although a lot of peeps weren't too keen on the simple graphics. Shame on them.

Fusion tried hard and at times got it right unfortunately the handling was slightly off imo and the chronic slowdown didnt help a bit.
Fusion introduced the zone mode which is a time trial type affair with each progressive lap increasing the speed of the craft until such time as you just cant handle it and crash. Not sure but I think it also introduced a damage model as well, or was that earlier?

WipEouT Pure on the PSP was jolly good fun and harked back to handling similar to '3'

                    Prolly.

Yeah, the damage model was introduced in Fusion.

                        Right you are Dogg Thang.
Thinking back on it you needed that damage model since there were more racers on track than the PS1 versions and they tended to send rockets up your bum a bit too frequently, which kicked off the slowdown, which would affect your handling, which would result in sending you trackside, which would result in you taking more damage.

Although I'm dissing Fusion a tad I was there with my ?34.99 in my sweaty palm at launch day and I still have it to this day*. I do like a WipEouT game and hope that SCEE can bring back the ol' zero-grav racing magic on the PS3.

                        * The game, not the ?34.99

Wip3out was my fave personally but the thing with the PS1 was the fact that you always had corners and hardly any straights due to the lak of mem if I remember correctly.

There is no way they will be going back to the mistake they made with Fusion.

I just hope they utilise the Analogue shoulder buttons (air-brakes) and tilt mechanism (nose control) in the pad to good effect.

Ive been playing Pure since March 05, and I am still discovering new racing techniques If they deliver that handling model on the PS3 with outstanding graphics I will be the happiest gamer alive

Another one for 2097/3 handling here. Both games were the highlight of the series and although I very much enjoyed Pure, a next-gen Wipeout with old-school handling released before the end of next year would probably entice me into buying a PS3 before I'm planning to (that is if games are region free, and the US importing situation isn't affected).
