Wii 2.0 to bring HD Capabilities?

Rumor has it that the DVD enabled version of the Wii will also come back with HD capabilities, with a Nintendo PR explaining if MS can do it, then it's possible Nintendo can too.

    quote:

Game Informer got in touch with Nintendo PR which replied explaining that if Microsoft could enable 1080P with a firmware update, then Nintendo might be able to do the same thing. Nintendo proved it could update firmware this weekend when each system sold at launch had to update its firmware to enable SD card management.

Any chance they could do 720P first

Great for us HDTV players if they can though !

I dont think nintendo would go as high as 1080p, I couldnt see it working on such a low spec machine. would 720p be a viable option?

I doubt it has the video RAM to store a 720p image, so a firmware update isn't going to do jack.

haha, I meant in comparison to the PS3 and Xbox 360 beasts. Should've thought about my words really eh.

Despite the lack of power the wii is my most anticipated anyhoo

Is it safe to come out now?

I'm pretty sure simple games like Wii Sports could do 720p easily, although something like Zelda might have a harder time.

The Xbox 1 had a couple of games in 720p remember (the new Marvel game for example), and the Wii supposedly has beefier specs than that.

We got some Pal covers in today and the Ubi-Soft ones have HDTV/EDTV on the back next to 60hz.
I thought it just ment 480p but that just covers EDTV

would it be out of the question to scan the zelda one? I want to make a decent European cover for Wii Sports...

According to Nintendo, 480p is EDTV.

Well, not just according to Nintendo. In general, 480p is EDTV.

As regards a HD firmware update...well, I severely doubt it.

The wii could do Hd, but only like the xbox and ps2 could.Games designed specifically or the resolution would just be too much for the poor wii I am afraid. It does not have enough ram or enough processing grunt in either the gpu or cpu to display games designed for say 720p.

                              Does it matter?
