    Monkey Ball or Rayman?

I thought i had my Wii situation sorted.

But now i am starting to doubt my choices of games. As you know the console comes with Wii Sports, but i wanted to get another two games on launch.

Originally my choices were Red Steel and Monkey Ball, however after seeing reviews Red Steel is now going to be changed for Zelda. What i have also been hearing is that Rayman is just as good if not better than Monkey Ball when it comes top the mini games. The sole reason for getting the Wii is to takeover from my GAmecube as the multiplayer consoles of choice between me and my mates and i want to make sure i get the better of the two games based entirely on the multiplayer fun to be had in each title.

I keep seeing reviews for Rayman and the preview on Gamer.tv this morning made me wonder if i should get that over Monkey Ball.

What i want to know is if any of you guys have either title or plan to get either game and why you went for that over the other.

Well, I don't own Wii, but many Penny-Arcade forum users say that the Monkey Ball isn't really that great. Too short single player, and most minigames are just plain bad. Rayman, in the other hand, has really good minigames, but most of them can't be played simultaneously (you pass controller around).

I'm surprised people are finding the single player too short. I can see it would be if you just went through using continues, but that doesn't let you finish the game (you miss two whole worlds). I can see it taking me quite a while to finish properly, even without collecting all the bananas.

The mini games are certainly a bit hit-and-miss, but they're good examples of the different ways you can use the remote. Monkey War is probably my favourite, and it's a great demonstration of how well the Wii can work for FPS controls.

I am shocked you were going to choose Red Steel over Zelda. OMG!! (although everyone has their preferences)

I've played both Rayman and monkey ball and I just find monkey ball more entertaining....

I am finding myself in the exact situation as yourself really, since I have the Wii pre-ordered with Zelda and Super Monkeyball. I think I'll be sticking with SMB since most people recommend it over Rayman but still unsure.

Could you please post a link of that Gamer.tv preview as I cant find it on their site.

I saw the same thing and it had a similar effect on me. I wasn't planning on getting either but the Rayman games looks a lot of fun and I'm just watching as many video reviews of it as I can

My concern is - is it a game I need to necessarily get at launch or could it be one that I wait for.

I loved the original SMB on GC, so I'm leaning toward Monkey Ball. I'm not sure why people are complaining about the number of levels though - isn't 100 levels the same amount that featured in the orignal game?

Hugely disappointed with Monkey Ball. I didnt buy it for the single player, more the mini games but most just dont work

There're actually more than that, but they don't start getting hard as quickly, so you can bomb through the first few worlds quite easily. The problem that some reviewers seem to have had is that they've not completed the early worlds properly (i.e. without using continues) so they haven't realised that there're actually more worlds to unlock and have decided that the game's too easy.

SMB is probably not worth getting for the multiplayer/minigame side, but the main game is excellent. Far better than the levels in SMB2, in my opinion.

as far as I know Rayman is by far the better game, definately my first choice, though if funds are good enough I'll be picking up Monkey Ball as well.
