The Urge

What is this urge that makes me want to buy a PS3 right now even though there's is nothing on it that remotely interests me, I know I'll pay over the odds and I think it'll be a while before Sony get the thing to where it should be ?

Just checked the old funds today and have more dough than I thought - I think it's the fact that I *could* that's making the urge hard to resist.

If I can just hold out till Friday the wii can hopefully satisfy this strange urge. Gaming addiction FTL.

There is still enjoyment to be had from trying out a new piece of hardware, especially new consoles with all their firmware and integrated services. Outside of Zelda, most people seem to have tremendous fun on the Wii just designing Mii characters.

With previous consoles it was 'just the games'. Hell, you switch on a SNES with no game in the cartridge slot and you'll be faced with just a black screen. Now you can buy a PS3 with no games and get a lot of enjoyment just by messing around and trying out free demos etc.

And if you know you're going to get one anyway and it looks likely a price drop is some way off, then hell why not get one now. I know I said in another thread not to bother as it'll cost over the odds, but there seems to be a fair few machines available for reasonable prices now.

I can resist the PS3 until one thing arrives... DMC4... while MGS and all the other stuff coming along does look great DMC4 is the ONLY thing that is really drawing my interest at the moment because its is my favourite game series of all time and DMC3 was probably my most played PS2 game EVER.

The price is another sticky point and unless it comes down a fair bit to around the ?300 mark I dont think it is something I am going to clambering for. I was prepared MONTHS in advance of the 360 launch to buy a list of games and accessories because so many things appealed to me but so far DMC4 is the only thing that will make me break for the PS3 I think.

Who knows, that could change over the next month or so and there could loads of stuff I want for it but there aint right now.

So I suppose DMC4 and a price of around ?300-350 could pull me in but at the moment there certainly aint the same kind of excitement that the 360 had, which is a little disappointing.

I succumbed to The Urge last week. Not getting a 360 HD-DVD was the final straw, the Wii was still a week away, and someone linked to a decent deal from here, and before I knew it I had a PS3 on it's way.

At least having one stops you obsessing about buying one

I'm having this feeling about the Wii! "But it's so cheap, buy 2!" you might say but it's a lot of money to me yet still the thrill of using a card to buy something so sexy online...yes I'm still talking about games!

This is the reason I got a 360. Wasn't too interested, but balancing the books I thought I could afford one and from there it snowballed into 'must track one down!' and spending half a day travelling around south London looking for a premium.

The difference is though, it was a PAL machine with a years warranty. I'd never stump up that much cash for an expensive imported machine that could get bricked any minute and leave me buggered.

Im thinking about buying another gamecube (as no doubt they'll be giving them away post the wii) thing is it'll be my 3rd, my 2nd this year!(got rid of the first two) so i fully understand your urge,In fact i was going to start a similar thread this morning entitled 'am i mad?' dont answer that. Im mad,i am etc,etc,etc..

Jusatsushi I thank ye - I'd forgotten about these emerging threads about bricked machines & firmware deaths think it'll need to be a PAL model for me.

I can remember it happened with 3DO - was moderately interested in it, then one day pop into an indie in Glasgow and there's one sitting on the shelf running Madden.

Cue a half hour drive home for bank stuff, into bank to withdraw circa ?550 and about 2 hours later I was home with a bag of lager, a brand new USA 3DO import and crash & burn, Madden and something else and (a couple of days later) Road Rash.

Man them were the days ><

It's that urge that just takes over - one minute I've no interest in something the next I'm going balls-out trying to get my hands on it right there & then.

I`m one of the worlds worst when when it comes to giving into the urge, but I`m still loving Gears that much it has killed any urge to buy anything since I got it.

I do however have an urge type feeling stiring in my belly as we get closer to the UK release of Wii, everyone is getting excited and it`s rubbing off on me now too. I just hope that Father Christmas brings me one!

I tried to lay the "you want to chip in" groundwork for the Wii the other day but not sure the lady is biting... probably cause she skint but guaranteed when I fire it up and start swinging that remote around over my head and stuff she will be going off her head for shot

The urge I am focussing on right is the Wii one, the PS3 will kick in when PAL launch approaches. Given the recent situation I had with my PAL 360, the need for a guarantee and going through a trusted seller has never been so important.
