    A component cable (good luck)
A component to VGA transcoder such as the vdigi Z3

or a monitor that has composite/svid or component in.

Play-Asia have a pre-order listing up for a Wii D-Sub (VGA) lead, which will apparently ship in a couple of days time.

D-sub isn't the same thing as VGA though is it?
It's the same connector, but not the same signal I always thought.

I'm pretty sure they're the same, d-sub is just the official name for a vga socket. I'm sure I'll be corrected if that's wrong though

Sure you haven't mistaken the D-terminal cable for a D-sub? I can't find any D-sub on Play asia and D-Terminal is something completely different. It is the cable of choice ofr modding into a VGA cable though. That's what happened on the cube.

D-Sub is specifically the name for the connector type.

But you sure it's not a D-Terminal cable?

Do not buy the Dterm cable thinking it's VGA. It's for Japanese TVs/monitors which have a special connector and won't work on yours. I've asked PA to make a note of this in the description, but they haven't acted yet. I'm basing this on the same cable available for the Gamecube.

The Wii does NOT support VGA.

Yeah, the d-terminal cable is basically the same thing as component, just has a different connector that's unique to Japan.

I remember one of the first ever rumours years ago, was that you could plug it into a tv or a vga monitor.

It's super rubbish really, considering the Dreamcast had VGA built in years ago. How difficult would it have been?

                        Sorry to bump this thread.

I got the exact same set up and it works, but don't expect a nice picture (very pixelated and it hurts my eyes in Zelda), and it doesn't work with Gamecube games (no idea about VC games, probably not, but I'm not spending anything on those).

Also if you're used to sitting about 50cm (max) away from your monitor, for the Wii, be prepared to change that to 1.5metres.

Also setting it up is a nightmare, since you have to change the settings for the Wii to output to 480p. I did this by memorising the entire menu and just hoping when I pressed randomly that it worked, and thankfully after 20 minutes of guessing, it did. (Solution is to hook it up to a HDTV beforehand, unfortunately I don't have one).

have you got a PAL Wii? If so I'd guess the reason it doesn't work with GC games is because you're using progressive scan which is only supported by NTSC Gamecube software. We had 60hz bolted on instead so PAL hardware doesn't support Prog Scan on Cube games, it won't work for Virtual console either I wouldn't haven thought, only ED/HDTV compatible Wii software.

The reason it looks pixellated is the resolution, if you're used to HD gaming on the 360/PSP, the Wii really will look dated on that front.

Yeah, knew I should have got a US Wii, oh well.

I guess since my monitor is 1440*900, 640x480 (I think that's the resolution, but obviously WS) looks terrible.

Oh well, it's better than nothing.

yeah I've got a 1440x900 PC Monitor with built in TV inputs and I agree, though I ain't played Wii, Dreamcast in VGA looks bloomin nice, but GameCube in Component looks terrible.
