I need something that keeps me wondering what will happen next, not just on the main storyline, but also what happens to the characters acting it out. That's why I tend to prefer Japanese creations, as they tend to focus more on character development than making everything look flashy (I know that's a bit of a generalisation, but it's at least partly true).

And in this respect Retro have been very clever, they've negated the need for lengthy cut scenes and actually involved player participation in plot developement thus maintaining a high level of immersion.

Personally i think gameplay and plot have a tempestuous relationship, often a convoluted plot hides mediocre gameplay. And complex plot and the way in which it's delivered at the expense of gameplay is unforgivable.

As Concept has illustrated a plot can be devised and portrayed in many ways.

The Resident Evil plots always make me want to finish them just to find out who certain people are etc n why they r doin the things they are, i can't comment about MGS2 cus i played JPN, but MGS had an amazin plot and story. FFX i thought had some good twists in it that i was not expecting and always kept me engaged to sum degree.

Most game plots don't exist for me as now most games i buy that do have a story are in JPN which is sad in some ways, Anubis for example apparently has a great story not that i can witness it, still a cool game tho but i have not yet completed it. Sometimes i wish i cud understand the stories more because this always adds alot to games i find.

What keeps me glued is when things happen that u don't expect or if a story makes u feel really involved, and have a hatred for certain characters.
