IS the making of article any good? Hmm, may just buy it for the poster anyway Since when was 7 a 'bad' score?

When looking at EDGE review scores I find it helps to remember they rated GTA3 a six, and completely failed to predict in any way the revolution that was about to come - in terms of a new genre, and a system selling game franchise that would bulldoze everything before it for the next 5 years.

Well, they did realise shortly afterwards and claimed they'd meant to give it an 8.

      Uh huh.

I expect this month they were a bit tired after all the critical and objective PS3 coverage in the last issue.

Lots of very harsh scores there, but I would take particular issue with the Phoenix Wright 2 score. I love this game, it's easily one of the best on the DS. If you liked the original there's absolutely nothing to dislike about it.

The Rayman score is pretty stupid too, it's a really fun game.

Not that I care anwyay, I don't even buy Edge anymore.

To be fair, I do believe that was a typo. The wording of the GTA3 review certainly doesn't sound like a 6/10 and they were very quick to correct the mistake on their forum (certainly before the game had become the huge million seller that we now know it is).

I always normally feel there scores are around the right mark but i like to also read the reviews to see why they gave it such a score. I usually look at a game i like look of. Look for opinions and what other people thought as well as EDGE then make my mind up. Or in the case of FFXII, buy it not really knowing if it was better or worse than X. Sometimes this has back fired though, especially when EDGE hype up a game pre release and i buy it because i like the idea of it and the hype it received, The Bouncer and Auto Modellista being prime examples.

With GTA 3 I always thought they marked it down to prove a point to Take Two who would only send them review code if they guaranteed to give it at least 9 out of 10.

I must admit I haven't played Phoenix Wright 2 but isn't it just a lot more of the same?

Having a great big moan seems to prove otherwise.

I can't rememeber the scores accuratly, but haven't they always rated the PES series very highly when the changes between each sequel isn't that big of a list?

That's what I was wondering, think i'm actually going to buy a copy just for this.

Basically yes, but for a game like Phoenix Wright it's exactly what was needed. More cases, more humour, more characters, just more Phoenix Wright. There are some gameplay tweaks, but it wasn't broken in the first place and is still a pretty unique experience.

Didn't they give The Bouncer 3/10 though? And Auto Modellista got something like 5 or 6. I'd never make decisions based on previews - you can never tell exactly how much access the magazine has to the final product or anything near it. That said, even though overall I was very disappointed with the way The Bouncer turned out (I was very much looking forward to it and believed it would break new ground), I did find things to like in it.

PES and Winning Eleven have scored 9/10 on every occassion (PS2 versions)

I actually vehemently disagree. In an issue where I feel Edge have gotten everything wrong (Yoshi's Island DS a 6? **** off), this one score stands out as the correct one in my estimation. The cases and characters aren't as compelling, Franziska doesn't make the same impact Edgeworth and Von Karma did in the first, and in places it is FAR too obtuse for its own good, where multiple evidences could easily be the "right" thing, and the trial and error of saving, putting forward one of them and then reloading until you get the right one, just to save your energy bar from the absolute whipping it gets with the later testimonials. The last case pretty much saves the game from being a total washout. It's not horrible and the script is still a laugh-a-minute, but I was incredibly disappointed with the finished product overall.

Although I have heard PW3 is megaton good, so I'm quite happy to waste extra money on an American copy if the increased sales figures mean the difference between seeing an official translation or not.

Yeah they're bad for that - lack of consistency tbh !
