Doing a bit of a search, it seems like the original UMD version had problems with memory sticks bigger than 2 gig, so it looks like they've not fixed it for the download version, which is a bit of a problem given the size of the internal storage on the Go.

Ta. Done a bit more looking, and it sounds like they fixed the bug for the US PSN release, but put the buggy version on the EU PSN. Brilliant. You'd think they'd at least basically test that the game works on the latest version of the hardware.
Going to try sticking it on my old PSP, making a save and copying it onto the Go.

Will almost certainly get pinball fantasies, loved that on the Amiga. Is Fate/Unlimited Codes any good or is it a standard anime licence?

Yep, a good update. I've never played Dino Crisis so I may pick that up, though I've got more PSP games now than I can play. The reports of PSP Tekken 6, though generally good, seem to make out that it is inferior to Tekken 5 DR in many ways, so I'm iffy about getting that one, though I'd love one or other on my Go.

I adore the original Dino Crisis. Really tipped the genre on its head by introducing monsters that were a genuine threat above the standard shuffling zombies of the Resident Evil games. I seem to remember the game being pretty long too (with RE3-style choices to offer split paths to increase replayability).
Do I use my last remaining $6 on my US account to grab it or do I wait in case something even better comes along in the next couple of weeks. Think once my Christmas spending is all done I'll treat myself to another $50 pre-paid card.

Maybe that was one of the reasons I hold the game in high esteem. It was actually challenging and it was a 'survival horror' where surviving was paramount.
One of the reasons that I don't hold Resident Evil 2 in the same high esteem as many others (great game that I still think it is) is that the game is far too easy (once past the initial city section at the start of the game). I found that I could get through the entire game killing everything from the police station onwards and still have a small mini arsenal's worth of ammunition left over. This was without even touching the S.M.G. (which made things even easier).

Theres challenging and theres cheating, Dino Crisis was the later, it wasnt very fair at all. The Resident Evil games have always been brilliant at leaving just enough ammo scattered about to get through the game where as in Dino Crisis there were bits where it was was nearly impossible to complete certain sections simpley becuase it was too hard to run past enemies, you kept dying and had to start over again from miles back.
Thought it was crap myself, Dino Crisis 2 on the other hand was brilliant, they obviously listened to the fact that people thpought Dinosaurs didnt suit an RE type of game, becuase it was more action orientated and alot more enjoyable becuase of it.

The original Resident Evil I agree got the ammo balance spot on (especially on Chris' game) and 3: Nemesis and Code: Veronica were both better than 2 in that regard.
I personally never found Dino Crisis unfair or overly difficult at all. As I say, I found it a challenging game but that was one of the things I liked about it. I guess I have a higher tolerance than most maybe.

Well i dont know, I like a challenge, but if its not fair then I cant be bothered to grit my teeth and carry on when I'm not enjoying myself, there are too many other games out there to play that actualy do feel fair.
Obviously Capcom have produced some challenging and fantastic games over the years that were satisfying to complete, I just didnt feel Dino Crisis was one of them.

Dino Crisis is all well and good if you know where to go, but if you get lost or need to explore, the respawning enemies whittle down your ammo until it makes it impossible to progress.
It's a major design flaw that has harmed a lot of otherwise good games. System Shock 2 had it (although the enemies dropped ammo, they didn't drop as much ammo as was needed to kill them), Project Zero 1 had it (countered a bit by the fact you had a large amount of low level film but it still ate up your healing items).
You should always ensure the items a player has access to are capable of beating as many enemies as they need to kill to be able to progress (so long as they aren't wasting ammo left right and center).

I'm generally not a fan of respawning enemies at all. I don't mind areas being repopulated with reason or through scripting of certain events but the idea that the second you leave an area the exact same enemies will reappear should have gone out with the NES. Is that what happens in Dino Crisis?

This happened in Dino Crisis 2 as well, but that was a shooter really, you usualy had about 500 Shotgun shells on you at a time, so it didnt matter, infact it helped as the game had a scoring system wioth combos/points etc.Last edited by rmoxon; 25-11-2009, 12:09.
