    PS3 Controller weight

Dont know about anybody else but the weight of the PS3 pad was far too light for me. In my boredom I had a look inside. Where the old rumble units were is just a big empty space. So armed with the kitchen scales and some steel bar I cut a couple of pieces of steel to stick inside the new pad so it is the same weight as a ps2 pad.

The extra weight really helps with the tilt option in motorstorm, no longer feels like flinging a feather about and dont tend to oversteer.

I really admire people who do useful upgrades to their kit like this (as opposed to cutting holes in the sides of PCs and adding neon lights).

the light pad is one of the benefits from not having a rumble IMO, sounds crazy taking it apart and adding more weight to it :P

I personally like the lightness of the pad too. Guess it's all down to what you prefer though

I hated the lightness at first but now my pathetically weak wrists feel no pain even after a 5 hour RR7 stint.

I prefer a bit of weight to my joypads, so I reckon this is a great idea Huxley. If and when I get a PS3, I may just steal your idea.

Good stuff. Really light pieces of kit just feel cheap and poor quality to me really cant stand things that are too light.

                Same here.
At first it felt like a hollow demo unit, like the phones you find in phone shops.

Now however i feel its perfect.

Agreed!! I had that same thought when I first got hold of a SIXAXIS, it did feel like a mobile phone dummy, or more like the weight of a retro controller like the 16 bit consoles.

I find it interesting the pad mould still has the vibration motor spaces hehe

I'm thinking they're gonna bring out a rumble pad too. May be labelled as a PS1/2 pad or for PS3 games that require the use of rumble. It's SCEI afterall.
                      Kept you waiting, huh?

Those spaces are there for Psycho Mantis' "will", he uses that alone to move your controller you see, when playing backwards compatible titles on your PS3.

you are? i'm not... it's blatantly to save sony some cash on making a new mould and all the associated guff that goes with it. you can rest assure that ps4 will have the exact same pad.

I doubt it, as Sony got last year's december three patents that simulate function of Wiimote quite closely.

EDIT: Gah, links don't work anymore.

Plus Sony got sued by Immersion who patented the Vibration Technology but Immersion I've read have offered to give vibration solutions for the PS3 for their controllers which wont affect the SIXAXIS.

Sony should damn accept it!!!!! Some games feel dull without the Vibration!!
