I'm not sure what the Wii remote could offer in terms of light gun games over, say, a light gun.

the remote wouldn't offer anything in particular over a lightgun, it's just that it's standard with the console so wouldn't limit the appeal of the game, and wouldn't cost an extra £40+ in controllers to be able to play.
And the gf/wife won't complain about the extra space they take up in the house. (Or am I alone with that problem?)

Yes, the high price of lightguns in the past coupled with the few games they work with has been quite prohibitive. Although, I'd imagine for the right experience, we'll need one of those gun cases for the remote - hopefully they'll be bundled with the games rather than being a seperate expense.

If I remember correctly what they used to do with Time Crisis on the PS1 would probably be best. Bundle the first game with the 'jacket', then any subsequent games would be mixed with/without it and the option to buy it separately would exist too.
Still, I'm not entirely sure it would be an absolute requirement for the genre - I've found real light gun games painful with prolonged use so I don't see the Wii remote being that much worse, if at all.

The obvious answer here is buy Rayman Ravid Rabbids - Several (very good) stages of Virtua Cop style goodness and it feels nice & accurate - best bit of the game for me and had me preying for Virtua Cop / Time Crisis style goodness on wii.
Can't see any "real" light gun games working on the wii for the simple reason that you can't "point" directly at the place you want to shoot.

What you have to remember is it may not be down to the limitations of the wii mote but just lazy implementation. Just look at some of the Monkey Ball mini games for example.
I think in the right situation a gun game would work well on the wii. As some have pointed out theres no problem what so ever with the Rayman Gun levels and most are based on popular gun games (Time Crisis, HOTD etc)

i think lightgun games would work pretty well with the wiimote. As a massive fan of both virtua cop and hotd when they came out I couldnt wait for them to come out on the pc. When they did I didn't have a lightgun and had to play with the mouse. The experience of playing with a mouse was definitely something that took getting used to but was not a hinderence.
since the wiimote basically acts as a mouse - providing there is an onscreen cursor as in previously mentioned games, this really could work
