    Nintendo E3 Press Conference?

Now that E3 is either dead and gone/massively downsized (take your pick), does anyone know what the console manufacturers are doing this year in terms of press conferences?

I know it's a bit early, to ask, but just so I can get any potential disappointment with out the way ahead of time - does anyone know if Nintendo will be doing a conference that we can watch video feed of this April/May?

I don't think there are going to be any unless Spaceworld returns or GDC, TGS or Leipzig take over duties. The traditional cyclic hype is flutter free.

GDC is too early in the year to release big announcements. Western developers aren't going to spend huge amounts of money and human resources with a tradeshow their main consumer base doesn't get to see much of (TGS)... and Leipzig is too close to X06 for MS to give proper attention to (unless it's re-scheduled). When one of the big three fails to agree to attend a major tradeshow, as with what was rumoured to have happened to E3 in 2007, then the whole deck of cards tends to collapse.

In short, E3 as we know it is a thing of the past, and so is hype distribution for the year. Trailers, demos, interviews/speeches and big announcements will be scattered throughout the year most probably.

On the one hand that means that news is more balanced and there's always something just around the corner no matter how small. On the other, there could quite easily be no central focus.

This raises a very good point actually. Sony and Nintendo liked to show profit graphs, and MS would bang on about market penetration- these conferences had as much business purpose as they did in hyping up the next round of games and hardware. Surely there needs to be some sort of replacement?

Apparently the confrence centre in LA was too big and expencive to run so most companys hav pulled out. They clame there will be an E3 but not as we know it, mostly taking place in small hotels and mini events in LA. Chances are it won't happen at all. Shame.

bloody hell, who'd of thought, especially now with all the next gen consoles having been released. E3 has been around for ages though and is probably the biggest. If this does, doesnt look too good for us punters tryna get a glipmse at new stuff ehh.

            Grrr......

Too expensive to run? They must be so skint. Bless 'em.

The big three always had conferences away from the actual E3 event, so there might not be any change at all. That or we might see an expansion of their own events (Gamers' Day, X07, etc) to save them having to put on a massive show twice in a year. Or even huge growth to PAX, which has doubled in size from last year already.

At E3 time we're more likely to get them showing the specialist press their stuff behind closed doors.

That was my hope - it was a pre-E3 conference after all.

The conferences will more than likely take place. As mentioned they were seperate to the actually exhibition. They may be a bit more low key though.

Rumour is that TGS won't be happening this year either. Not dead completely - think the organisers are just skipping a year.

If I remember correctly, TGS is going to happen this year, but it is merging with few other entertaiment expos.

Shame if TGS doesn't happen. It'd be good to see what the Wii's and PS3's Japanese second-wave are going to consist of rather than it being spread out all over the show.
