Could be wrong but I dont think it was a box set.
If you pre ordered it from Ghostlight direct (PAL publisher website) you got a free t-shirt (before release of the game) and a cool mention in the PAL game manual.
This collectors edition does have a different cover more content and is also on ghostlight site for £35!

The game also had a shiny silver cover too, which I think the usual version didn't

Does it have a 60hz mode? And is DDS1 a sequel to Nocturne? In other words, should I play Nocturne first?

You don't need to. But you should play Nocturne since its great.

Does Nocturne use the same graphics engine as DDS1 and DDS2? I was quite impressed with the look of those DDS games, and wanted to get into it. Nocturne is hard to find though. And if it's like with the Shadow Hearts series where I want to play SH2, but don't want to play SH1, I'll end up never touching anything in the series at all.

As far as I know it doesn't.

I got my free t-shirt and name mentioned in the DDS manual too. But I haven't even started the game yet, still I went and pre-ordered the collectors edition of DDS2 anyway. Which is just stupid really.

No 60hz, no deal. End of the matter.

If I buy it, it will only be for collection purposes. I wouldn't actually play it, I'd order a US version and play that instead. I did that for Xenosaga II because the PAL version had nice packaging, but I don't have that kind of cash to throw around anymore.

Lucifer's Call (Nocturne) had a 60hz mode which was very nice to see. But DDS as far as I know didn't - so I skipped it. If you can play the US versions than go for it. I think Nocturne, DDS 1 and 2 all got released with Collectors editions over there so it might be worth finding them rather than getting the PAL version(s). Although the PAL version will likely end up being worth more in the future.

Edit: And they do seem to use the engine, at least they look very similar. If you like one, you'll like the other i'm sure.

Yeah that kind of tainted the whole DDS release for me.

"Looks, here's your free T-shirt, your name in our manual, and your collectors edition copy of a game which looked unlikely to make it to PAL land. BUT WAIT, don't forget you're 50hz mode!"

And Nocturne in 60hz, I thought looked fantastic too.

                            Just an update.
Now got that game via play.com (if you ordered via ghostlight, you got a free poster), ships with seperate Music CD in a DVD-Case, inside game box also has 6 very nice character art cards.
Also DDS 2 has got a full 60Hz option in-game.
I havent played DDS 1 so I am gonna skip on this until DDS 1 ships to me and I play that through.

I was dissapointed that there's no actual outer to house the 2 DVD cases.
