FF XII UK Launch @ HMV

Your trusted source for video game news, reviews and guides, since 1999.

London's Oxford Street HMV is hosting another game launch on 23rd February, and this time it's Final Fantasy XII, the next instalment in the immensely-popular JRPG series, which is being celebrated.
The event will run between 12pm and 2pm, and gift wristbands will be given out as early as 9am. If you snag one of these bands and are one of the first 100 to purchase the game, you'll receive a Moogle soft toy and a CD of five tracks selected by composer Hitoshi Sakimoto.

If you're one of the next 200 people and have a wristband, then you'll also get the limited edition CD, specially put together for the launch event.
All attendees will also have a chance to win a trip to Japan, by entering a free competition.

But it wouldn't be a game launch without a fancy-dress competition, so Square Enix talent spotters will be dishing out freebies to those with the best outfit on the day.
At the party Akitoshi Kawazu (the executive producer of FFXII and the creator of the Saga/Final Fantasy Legend series) and Hiroshi Minagawa (co director of FFXII and art director of Final Fantasy Tactics) will be around to sign copies of the game
By sheer co-incidence, this has fallen on my week off from work, and seeing as a mate of mine is up for this, I'm planning on going along. Anyone else from here thinking about it?

I've had the US LE since release which I'm hoping to get signed, but if there's the opportunity for goodies with this one I'm probably going to end up buying that too... despite the fact I haven't even played my US copy yet.

Think I might pass on the cosplay competition though

Sounds almost worth it for a Moogle soft toy. Too cute!

I'm off next week. Massively tempted to go for this.

I already have the US special edition of the game (and enjoying it immensely) but the opportunity to get a signed copy (and Moogle plush ^_^) is high.

Where are people getting their US tins from? Last time I checked, they're only available from EBGames and they don't ship to UK... I guess eBay is the only other option.

www.gamestop.com wasn't it ? guess they sold out ages ago though.

(settled for standard US version myself)

I got my copy of the Special Edition from Gamestop but this was back in November upon release. Think they long since sold out. You may find some on Ebay but I’m not sure what the markup would be.

It's still available at Gamestop - $50 plus $16 postage.

D'oh thanks for that. For some reason I thought it was EBGames and I thought they wouldn't ship internationally, so I never tried. Just put an order in. Cheers!!

Not sure whether or not Fatbatch knew, but expect to pay around £20 on top of that for customs. I'd recommend finding an ebay seller with it - they're usually happy to mark it down for you.

I got away without paying customs, but it is a bit of a lottery ...

Squares PAL conversions are meant to be pretty sweet now. From DQ8 onwards.
