Great result. I think we all knew Resi4 was gonna sweep the boards for GotG. Reading the article made me realise how many quality titles were released for the last gen machines.

I imagine what with the PS2 being the least import friendly machine, that most people (myself included) only got Okami a fortnight ago when it was released in PAL land.

Halo better than Metroid Prime? Seriously? O rly? WTF? Is there anything more to add but my utter, stark bewilderment?

I can only imagine that the whole 'misunderstanding' thing where people thought Metroid Prime was just another FPS but with horrible controls, the relative lack of GameCube support and the fairly niche appeal of the Metroid series compared to Halo, are wot did it.

Anyway brillant list and some good winners. Although it is a shame some of my favourites did not score so highly, it is an opinion and you can not agrue with the titles that topped it.

By the way I think GoW is a fair winner. It's a good job all games aren't of the quality of Gears, Resi4, Zelda TP etc, otherwise I'd have no money and would never leave the house, so thank god for mediocrity.

Yep, fair winners all round (maybe - haven't played RE4 and Halo, well, let's not go there). Fair when it comes to the impact the games seem to have had on the board.

And a very interesting read - really nicely written.

I would like to have seen more handheld titles in there and I do think the region/year crossover rules need to be revised as some games are getting shafted. Is there a full list of the rankings? I'd be curious as to where God of War placed.

I was going to ask that people didn't post "OMG your all dead inside" type posts, but I thought in this case it might be fun to see who is amazed at the results and who isn't.

You're going to get it easy. I'm playing Resi4 at the moment and I'm... underwhelmed to say the least! But I'll take that up in the First Play thread when I've completed it.

I played resi4 when it came out and i liked it. Got some nice graphics and some good gameplay. It's hard to pick a game of the generation so it'd be easy to make resi4 fall into the number1 spot. However, if we're being picky, technicly shenmue 2 was on the Xbox and because is was the translated version of it i think it should be classed in this generation, not on the dreamcast. So there is your number 1 for me.

Never managed to get into RE4 for some reason. The first level seemed so cumbersome, I'm afraid to say I abandoned it. Should really make an effort to play it properly, but I'll do it in my own time, not because anyone else evangelises about it.

While not exactly surprised by the results (excepting maybe Metroid Prime. Ace game, but didn't expect it to be so popular), I was a little disappointed. I was expecting something a little more esoteric.

Can we get a proper top 20 rundown, perhaps? Just for curiosity's sake.

Also, nice to see that a proper single-player campaign is still important for everyone. Except the Halo players. (insert appropriate smiley here)
