Interesting that both Phoenix Wright 2 and Gyukaitan Saiban 2 appear in the least - d'oh!

I liked Resi4 first time through and then I unlocked Professional mode. It's twice the game of the normal setting. Really scary when you get cornered by goons. If you have it on an easier setting opt for pro mode (it's unlocked by completion in the US version, but I believe it is available from the start in PAL).

Hugely surprised that the GTA series didn't fare better amongst the readership. Objectively speaking they're easily most iconic games of the last generation.

And Gears of War for GotY? *Shakes head* :P

Sorry about that, my fault. Sorted now.

I'm on the US GC version, so I'm playing the only mode that's available to me at the moment (Chapter 5-2 I think, so quit a way in). Most of my criticisms of the game are unlikely to be changed by a harder mode though, I doubt I'll play it through again.

The US GC version is the best one. I know most think this is so minor it probably won't be worth mentioning, but Capcom gimped their own sense of immersion in the game for the European and PS2 versions by including a loading tag during the screen transitions (presumably because they didn't believe people were patient enough to wait for five seconds without being told what was happening).

The game works so much better without.

In fairness to Pete, it was finished before the end of January. I blame the deputy editor.

You found the loading screens spoiled the immersion? Is that all?

The game had so many things that prevented me from thinking I was doing anything other than playing a game in my living room ?I found no sense of immersion at all. The loading screens were completely trivial in comparison.

The merchant, the briefcase (that I didn?t seem to be carrying, and that could be upgraded somehow), the fact that Spanish villagers dropped things like TMP ammo for no explicable reason at all, the herbs, the stupidness of Ashley, the ridiculous plot and hammy acting, the bit in the castle where there was a shooting range ?.

I love the game, but almost nothing about it is naturalistic ?it was completely ?game worldy?, and conformed to a set of age-old, and in my view outdated, gaming conventions.

The game would have been so more immersive if there had been no merchant, and if the villages had dropped sensible things like the pitchfork they were carrying. And if the creepy castle didn?t have a shooting range etc

This is somewhat offtopic, but I'd argue that making this sort of game more realistic would make it boring. In the real world, you don't find ammo lying around anywhere. It's either locked away or in a gun being pointed at you. Half the fun of the villagers was blowing them away with a shotgun, rather than having to stab them with a knife. Using realistic weapons found on a farm would have turned it into a stealth type yawnfest. Unless it was like MacGyver(sp?) where you turn a tin of turps and a fence painting gun into a flame thrower.

                              I agree.

I've played through Resi 4 and was surprised to find this as GOTG. It's got poor camera, poor controls. A pretty average title, IMO. I think one of the reasons it has so many plaudits is the fact it came out on the GC and had little competition in the games drought for that console.

Its just not that great. It doesn't push back the bounds of gaming or re-invent the style of game it is. Its just a bog standard shooter.
And if i'm being honest...Halo is great either!! Now let the hanging commence.
