And, my god, that PS3 supplement a couple of months ago had to have been written by Ken and Phil. Banging on about "limitless potential" and how Microsoft had to be running scared. I sincerely hope that if that was actually written by Edge they were deliberately playing devil's advocate.
Don't be so shocked. I recall reading Edge during the PS/DC era and it was ****ing anoying having that supplement that had 'experts' compare the aesthetic differences of the 2. DC couldn't do anything right according to Edge and it seemed like a pointless feature to boot. Partial blame lies at the feat of Edge for the DC'S falure! (exaggerated opinion only)

I doubt even Edge's influence these days could possibly tame the 360 though. Shame about the DC, I loved it.

To attribute the fall of the DC to Edge (even in part) is, I think giving the magazine W-A-Y too much credit (impartiality notwithstanding).

As for 174... I obviously don't have it yet (not a subscriber) but I have been toying with the idea of leaving Edge alone and if -from a casual glance in the newsagents- there's nothing of interest in this new issue, I won't be buying it.

I've bought Edge religiously for the last 7 years, but I think it's time to vote with my wallet. As others have opined, the magazine's blatant impartiality (which I think started 2 years ago after that sudden, mysterious staff changeover) has truly gone beyond the joke. With regards to Sony, the bias almost borders on shocking (especially this side of an offical publication) - though they still do have their moments of even-handedness.

Also, as others have also stated, the reviews get sloppier by the issue and, outside of 'Something about Japan', 'Inbox', Jeff Minter and Biffo's columns, there's precious little else worth reading anymore.

...I've had similar thoughts, but somehow I can't imagine taking a **** without it.

Oh you said it, I had to laugh that EDGE would question SEGA claims of Model3 Performance and you would to love point out how VF3 and SR II weren?t quite perfect (as proff of fake claims) EDGE were strangely quite of the Model 3 performance claims in their VO II and Get Bass reviews, Yet EDGE never once seem to question SONY online plans (remember Phil telling EDGE readers they could plug any USB modem in the PS2 and use the internet ) or SONY claims of Toy Story graphics or 60 million polygons .

Mind you that was nothing to the disgraceful way EDGE treated the Saturn , almost like EDGE was being paid by SONY. Still I guess the PS/PS2 fan make up the a lot of EDGE fanbase and so EDGE can?t upset the sheep and lose sales, Its clear as day with EDGE response to SONY PS3 clams and E3 footage that this is case .

And to mark down the likes of VF, GOW II , GRAW II for ofering more of the same, yet to continually give Pro Evo series nines out of ten (when Evolution is in the tiles) takes the piss , much like EDGE reviews these days . EDGE should become a MP, they are up there with the best MP when it comes to double standards and Hypocrisy

I just love plugging through their reviews, reaching the end without knowing what the hell they're talking about half the time. Back to Foucault and Derrida for an easier read.

If they've marked GOW2 down because it's 'more of the same' I'll be more than a little cross. And a 6 for Rogue Galaxy is just taking the piss.
This post sums up my view on Edge quite nicely. I can read an Edge review and come away from it not having much clue about what the hell the game is about if it's a game I've never heard of. Too much reference to "gaming as culture" and ****ty cliches / metaphors.

                  3 for Infernal eh.
That's one of Eidos' (publishing) efforts is it not. I had a feeling it would be rubbish as it appeared late on the radar and reviews / opinions were hard to find on 'teh interweb'.

Mario Kart Double Dash got 5 out of 10 in Edge, so God of War II (7 out of 10) must be amazing!

VF5 deserves 9 atleast, oh dear.. Sonic Wii only a 5 ! thought it would be around 7. Will get round to picking this issue up soon.

I hate that too. Far too close to that annoying "new games journalism" guff which, to steal an analogy, usually amounts to someone talking about what they had for breakfast for ten minutes and then ending it with a sentence condemning the state of modern games.

                        Pretentious ****, in other words.

Everything about Edge is Pretentious and always has been, you can tell by just skimming thru them in WH Smiths.

I wish they would ask Phil Harrison on Sony Europe some questions like. Why is Europe so late with PS3, you have made it cheaper for you to build and then charge more money and don't give Europe the option of a 20GB vers?? Or did I miss him answering these questions previously? They seem to be ever so PS3 excited in this issue judging by the front cover and Editor piece. I don't mind them being excited as I am, but there are some issues with PS3 e.g. price that they seem to be over looking sometimes.

As for VF5 score you know they won't have time to get to grip with the nuances of it. Everyone knows how good it is so in some ways does it matter what score they give it.

Why are you people complaining? An 8 is a great score for an Edge review...
