Not had any issues with my PS3 ( and I still have my original launch JP PS2 which is running perfectly fine ).
Ah yes, I forgot. The fingerprint issue would annoy me completely. All my discs are pristine because I never touch the bottom side. In fact, I never touch the top either. I only handle the disc by the outer and inner edges with my thumb and index finger. This will change the way I handle discs.

In my opinion, slot drives are stupid. And won't the outer 1/4 of the disc still be subject to scratching from the slot? It has to rest on something as you're pushing it in, and discs are very susceptible to scratching. Ok, blu ray not so much, but some people actually play DVD media on their PS3s.

I really like the slot too - the only thing that spoils it is the noise, given everything else is so quite - you expect the PS3 to suck the disc in silently, but it doesn't happen.

I have my PS3 vertical, though I can't see that would make a difference to the eject mechanism, who knows.
