Is there any evidence for the use of processing power help to cure cancer or whatever. Just like to see the proof.

It's helping the research for protein folding - it hasn't cured cancer yet!

So probably no tangible evidence, but check out the home page for some information on what it is/does.

It's 64MB reserved for the OS.

              96mb from what I've heard.

This is a thread for people to discuss folding at home on the PS3 and to join the ntsc-uk folding team, not to discuss the ps3 memory issues, thanks.

folding@home is an amazing idea and we should all try to support it.

There is a negative though, the power that the PS3 uses while running silent in this way is an obvious concern! Does anybody have any figures for the energy used by all this folding on PS3s? It's be interesting to know.

I don't understand this folding malarky. Can anyone care to explain in a short sentance?

You leave the software running, it performs calculations for some cancer solving project (protein folding) and uploads them.

It takes about 8 hours to do one batch I think.

They should've had a low power mode on the ps3 similar to the wii connect 24 so alleviate the power consumption problem !

surely a low power mode would yield lesser performance?

Does it use the RSX? It could do just the calculating without the pretty pictures onscreen using just the cell and that way would use less power no ?
