    Lets not forget SMB usually makes into top 100 because without that games there would be no Mario Tennis, Kart, Golf, Party, etc etc.

    But sticking with the orginal idea of the thread the reason I still like is because its still great fun to play. It has been surpassed and I'm sure the only reason I'd play over any other mario is for pure nostalgia but I still really enjoy playing through it.

      I think you are a total and utter idiot,full stop!!!

      I played Super mario Bros. before it came out on the Nintendo entertainment system or Family Computer.I played it the day it came out in the arcades in America and I can tell you it was a revolution,people used to cue for three hours just to get a play f the game.No other game had been like it up until then,levels that scrolled so perfectly and so many cool ideas like warping and all the secret vine paths were just mindblowing when it came out.It had adults and children hookes=d and mesmorised and was singlehandedly responsible for the nes selling out in the Us and reviving the dead videogames market there which had just faced a major collapse,so without Mario there would probably be no super Famicom or Playstation,the famicom sold because of it too,it kept videogames going in their darkest hour.

      Remember that the next time,you want to waffle such utter crap to us,I mean ask nearly every developer in the world and they will tell you the same,it revolutioised games.Games were all single screen affairs before it or they had no enemies or imagination like SMB did.

      I stand by what i said,you are an idiot vying for attention in a post designed to outrage and annoy,of course it may not be the greatest game of all time but it certainly deserves a place in it,and nearly everybody agrees,apart from you that is,does that not tell you something???

          There really is no call for that sort of attitude, his opinion differs to yours, it doesn't make him an idiot.

          Furthermore, there are some factual inaccuracies in your post.

          AFAIK - the Japanese version of Super Mario Bros was released on 13.09.1985, and I'm struggling to place which arcade version you speak of that was released before NES SMB in Japan.

          The original Mario Bros game was released in 83, but this was the single screen jobbie. There was a version of SMB on the PlayChoice-10 arcade system, but this came out after the Japanese NES version in 1986.

          It's certainly a large leap of faith to infer that the Playstation would never have been released were it not for SMB.

          We gladly welcome your input to NTSC-UK, but please show a little more courtesy in future

            Super mario bros arcade was a stand alone cabinet differing slightly to the nes and famicom versions,for instance some levels in world 6 had longer jumps and the sequence for world 7-4 is different,the warp zones were different too.

            It is completely different to the playchoice 10 cabinets and most american arcades were recieving Nintendo stand alone cabinets before they were released on the Famicom,as Nintendo was still doing big business back in the arcades in these days.

              I can't find any reference to it at all - if you could point me to any web sources I'd be most interested, as I've never seen or heard of this particular cab before, and isn't emulated anywhere.

              Edit - closest I can find that matches your description is:

              Basically, this is the arcade port of Super Mario Bros. There are minor changes in most of the levels, and some are even hacks of Super Mario Bros. 2 (Japan) levels. Among the changes include:

              * More enemies added in most levels
              * Bug fixes/preventions
              * Less warp zones
              * New required paths in "maze levels"
              * Less power-up and 1-up chances
              And it was release in the year ... 1986, which was after the NES version in Japan and the US

                Hey man, well said. Folks can nitpick (okay correct[/pedant]) but that was beautiful anyway.

                Criticism of SMB is laughable IMO. In fact I shouldn't have even dignified this festering thread, but it's easier than PMing nintendomad just to tell him that his post was beautiful and risk him feeling stalked.
