Don't know if anyone has posted the latest US numbers, but they largely echo the JP stats:

        APRIL 2007:

        DS: 471k
        Wii: 360k
        PS2: 194k
        PSP: 183k
        360: 174k
        GBA: 84k
        PS3: 82k

        Nintendo remain unstoppable.

Wow... both the ps2 and psp are outselling the 360? Not bad for a console that's 7 years old and for a handheld that apparently doesn't have any good software out for it.

But it is interesting that there wasn't nearly any kind of surge on sales even after Sony dropped the price by few bucks.

PS2 is dirt cheap and the PSP isn't in competition with the 360, so basically that's irrelevant.

The battles that matter are Wii vs 360 vs PS3, and DS vs PSP. Who is losing and winning there is pretty easy to see.

I don't think this thread has much further to go really, if it doesn't veer back on topic. It's just going to end up being another console war thread.

Wii Sports (to wit: the magic of the remote) is keeping the demand high, it's simple. As soon as anybody plays it, they want one.

If Wii sales continue to remain strong, is there any chance it will become the lead current gen development platform? Sales of 360 seem to have slowed, and enough has been said about the PS3's sales.... Will resources continue to be poured into developing for those two..?

well i have to say the next big release for me is resi evil 4:wii

ok it might be a update of a game but for me if it fixes the two flaws which were the slow aiming and widescreen then that will get me excited

the potential for the wii is what gets me excited aslong as they release games that make the most of it (not just party games) then i will be happy

also the fact the wii will be cheaper to develope for has got to be a plus for the smaller developers

It will happen, like it has always happened before. The console with strongest sales has always turned into leading development platform, even in those historical cases where consoles have been drastically different specs wise. There is good reason that Wii got 16 new exclusives during april, and PS3 got one.

Yes but it will take a good while yet. What's happening with the Wii mirrors exactly what happened with DS. Initially third parties (particularly Western devs) think little of it, then it's a big success so they quickly shovel a bunch of multi-platform ports onto it. Now the DS is so dominant (and continues to outsell it's rival by a massive amount) so it's not just the lead platform- it's getting lots of exclusives pretty much by default.

The Wii is following the same path so far, but we're still at least a year away from it receiving DS levels of exclusive high profile releases.

It's the new financial year now so Nintendo have started to release stock again and replenish the channel.

According to sales charts, demand hasn't cooled down, but there is more supply.
