    Hmm, thats obvious!?

Of course, if Microsoft desired to spend its entire budget on its games division it could command significantly more money and the same with Sony. Neither companies will do so though. The simple fact of the matter is Nintendo has amassed considerable assets and IF it wished to match the spending power of a Sony or Microsoft hardware launch it could do so. And it wouldn't bankrupt the company either.

Erm again, no company ventures and commits itself to a market if it can't back itself up financially; is it state the obvious day or something? Or, are you trying to suggest Nintendo can't 'back itself up' financially?

I'm suggesting that Nintendo is backing a one horse race - we've already seen a decline on GC sales and so we're looking at GB-SP and GB-DS as a savior. Sony PSP could well cut in to this market and Nintendo cannot go toe to toe because they simply do not have the capital to back it up. Again, go read the balance sheets.

Holy ****, this thread was put to rest on 17.07.2003 and the Mole resurrected it on the 14.07.2004, 3 days shy of 1 whole freaking year!!

It only feels like 6 months ago that I started this topic.

        Time sure does fly by..

Looks like the 'fanboys' could be right after all (you know who you are) ...

          MS might just regret this.

They really won't. Somebody already pointed this out in the thread, but it's a point that keeps getting swamped - when Microsoft purchased Rare, the most important thing that they bought themselves was crediibility. Even if the move itself has since become a bit of a joke, the positive subliminal effect that it had on the reputation of the Xbox as a serious piece of gaming kit and not just a very rich man's passing whim or a simple toe in the water makes up for it.
