X-Box Essentials.

Hi all.

Well, I?ve put it off for a long time now, but I?m finally considering getting an Xbox. Bearing in mind that I'm not going to use LIVE as soon as i get the console, what would YOU guys name as the essential titles? (Import and Pal).

I did a quick search, but couldn't find a thread on this.

Project Gotham Racing
Panzer Dragoon Orta

And, personally, I loved Munch's Oddysee. Some didn't, but I thought it was fantastic.

Essential titles for a new Xbox owner are as follows,

HALO (Must have!)
Project Gotham Racing (The best car game on Xbox and it's not really about the racing)
Panzer Dragoon Orta (Simply breath-taking and must be played to be believed)
Splinter Cell (Best version out there and better than MGS2)
Moto GP 2 (It's a good game in it's own right without Live)
Shenmue 2 (If you haven't played/owned this on Dreamcast)

Depends how much you're looking to spend really as there are more titles but I just thought that these ones will give you the most mileage.

EDIT! Well said JRM, how could I forget Gun Valkyrie and Munch's Oddysee?!?!?!?

If you've played the Abe games on PSOne then you will definitely want Munch. If you haven't it's still worth playing. Awesome game.

Tekki (So expensive >_< but SO good!)

I'm not feeling the machine as a console but with EvoX + apps installed it's more important than your TV.

Final Burn, MameOX and Xsnes are just incredible! Fling the media player on there and you can watch AVI/DIVX etc and listen to MP3s - it's heavy!

I've done this too and my Xbox is now a complete multi-media player.

I watch my Anim? on it and multi region DVDs. I'm also playing a damn sight more games than I used to. Mame X and Final Burn are worth buying an Xbox for!

If you are going to get it chipped then swap out the HD at the same time, gives you plenty of storage for:

EMUs
Games ripped onto the HD (make sure you own them first )
Media Player & MP3s/AVIs

I've dumped all of my:

Games - 16 off them
Music CDs - 200 albums (just under half way)
And I've started ripping my DVDs onto it too.

all onto the HD.

Hook it up to a wireless video sender & xbox controller and you can watch dvds, listen to music, play games all over the house.

i think splinter cell is a good game but far from beeing essential because it's a rushed game that seems unfinished in so many areas. i've played through it once and never touched it again. i'm hoping for splinter cell 2.

my most played xbox stuff:

1. halo - legendary mode
2. halo - heroic mode
3. halo - normal mode
4. mame x - especially neo geo stuff like metal slug 1 & 2
5. ghost recon - single campaign mode (is great and vastly underrated game!)
6. ghost recon - coop system link mode
7. dvd region x dongle free
8. xbox media player - all updates
9. burnout 2
10. ... comming soon - hopefully

my hope rests on:

star wars - knights of the old rebublic
rainbow six 3
halo 2
doom 3
half life 2

Can't recommend all of Smilebit's output highly enough (Jet Set Radio Future, Panzer Dragoon Saga and Gun Valkyrie).

And KOTOR looks amazing.

What do you need to get Mame X working? And where do you get MameX?

Final Burn is sweeeeeet. Most of the 2D capcom beat 'em ups are supported. This coupled with a PS2 Soul Calibur 2 stick and a DreamBox=Heaven

Mame is good, but I only use it for Metal Slug 1+2, hopefully they'll find a way to add support for larger roms so then I can play some KOF and the later Metal Slugs as well
