    Boss tactics

I noticed tonight that the way I deal with bosses has changed.

Earlier this fair eve I was sampling more of the delights that Viewtiful Joe has to offer, taking on one boss in particular who wiped the floor with me the first time we squared up; so much so that I didn't even get a single hit in. It occured to me that I used to be much more aggressive when meeting a boss for the first time - now I seem to use the first meeting as a chance to study attack patterns etc - if I win the bout then all the better, but if not, no problems. I used to just pile in like the raging demon that I am/was.

3rd attempt & that particular boss ate my dust.

So, how do you approach the man?

Short answer - precisely the same way you do.

      I'm not agressive, I'm defensive.

I like to spend as long as I can with the enemy to learn from them, and then really go for it next time... Or if I'm satisfied after two minutes of defense, I then attack in a pattern that I think will be most effective!

        Me too!!!!111one

I tend to spend the first couple of minutes avoiding attacks, and trying to spot where and when I can hit them. Then I try to actually hit them. If there's more than one attack pattern, I'll repeat this.

I like to defeat a boss on the first attempt if at all possible. I feel that it destroys the story's coherance if you have to repeat a boss battle, and you feel more seperated from the game. I spent a long time a couple of nights ago on that

Of course, non-adventure games don't have this problem of story so much, but I still don't like having to repeat a battle.

Hey Xexex, That boss is awesome isn't it! I remember feeling so dwarfed in that massive room with the wonky floor.

          Prime stuff.

Speaking of Prime, I remember facing off against Titan (rock monster from intro) for the first time - I couldn't believe the way the room was progressively getting crushed as he was rolling around like a madman.

I just tend to fly into bosses nowadays, they're not what they used to be back in the 90's. Perhaps I should try Joe - many people have told me its hard.

Playing a new KoF game on lvl.8 difficulty still takes some time trying to beat the bosses however - especially seeing as you're limited to 8 credits on the AES.

            Indeed.

But when you see something a the edge of the screen, turn round to lock onto it, fire your hookshot, and then realise that what you've just grabbed isn't the boss but instead is some wormy thing coming towards you very fast, you get just a little scared.

            Very classy boss.
I love the anticipation you feel when you go into a massive room and know full well that there'll be a boss around here somewhere.
