Well, given that NTSC VC F-Zero X is inferior to the original cart (i.e. a chugging mess), and I own SFII Turbo on countless other formats.. what Baseley said tbh :/

Hope there's an update soon, wasn't expecting this

I hadn't played N64 F-Zero much before so I grabbed this... and it's... mediocre. I had heard some saying it's the best F-Zero, but although it's quite fun it looks to me to suffer from the same problem N64 MarioKart does - wide, bland, far too long tracks and terrible graphics. The awful 'rock' soundtrack doesn't help.

SNES F-Zero, as with SNES MarioKart still reign supreme for me.

The graphics were never the game's strong point, it was all about how fast and smooth this game was, and still is to be fair.

I still think it's the most balanced of all the F-Zero's - lovely track design and solid, smooth handling - but you need to put in the hours to appreciate the subtlety of the controls and knowing where to boost.

Maybe one of the best on the N64, but that isn't saying much. The system was hardly loaded with treasures as the SNES and Genesis were.

I played more F-Zero X tonight and it does play fairly well, I just miss the tighter tracks and handling from the SNES, and I absolutely hate the music and presentation. The SNES soundtrack was sublime, but this is absolutely dreadful stuff.

Whereas by comparison I loved the N64 soundtrack, just pure hard, raw and in your face, rather fitting with the game where it does its best to squeeze the eyeballs from your sockets (something later achieved by GX).

Personally I feel the F-Zero series have gotten better with each console iteration... not to say the SNES version is bad, it's wonderfully classic and brilliant and addictive to play, but it's pedestrian by comparison...
Lie with passion and be forever damned...

Downloaded this yesterday and it plays as well as ever, I may have to take back my claims that GX was worse due to twitchier handling, as it appears it must of been the N64's stick making it a little unresponsive by comparison.
If only GX had death race it would of been perfect.
Anyway, loving F-zero X, just as good as I always remembered, hate using the classic controller though

Interesting, I'd put the N64 as one of the consoles with the most treasures. N64 games seemed to fall into that category of either absolute brilliance or complete dirge. There were very few average titles on the machine.

You could take all of the Nintendo first party (except Yoshi's Story & Mariokart 64), Rare (except Donkey Kong), DMA and Treasure titles and put them on a big plinth marked 'some of the best games ever made'. Would be a pretty full plinth too.

I'd have MK64 on that plinth without a shadow of a doubt !

N64 was a very interesting console though no doubt - I mean I really, really enjoyed Shadows of the Empire when I got mine
