psone it was resident evil
saturn it panzer dragoon
dreamcast marvel vs capcom 2....and i still remember it was a game i just couldnt wait to play oh and soul calibur
ps2 i think it was devil may cry
xbox panzer dragoon orta and halo
wii....well nothing specific i had some cash and saw a second hand unit cheap....did get luigis mansion though
x360 senko no ronde ......and i dont even have broadband
wii...like with game cube saw a cheap unit got zelda with it though

Ps1-Resident evil/MGS although Medal of honor is the game that pushed me to hand over the cash.
Dreamcast-House of the dead 2.
Sfc- final fight.
MD- Strider.
GBA- Castlevania CoTM/final fight.
XBOX 360-Call of Duty 2.
PS2- MGS2.
Gamecube- Resi Remake.

The only game I've ever specifically bought a console to play was Oblivion on the 360. Other than that I tend to make my decision on whether I'm buying something long before any specific killer app appears.

can't remember why i got my first PS2 (just before i got my GC), second was modded (traded for my first DC plus games) so i bought GT4: Prologue and caned it. i got my current one for... nope still can't think of anything but i have a few great games for it.

NeoGeo AES - Seeing and hearing it running Nam1975 when I visited Console Concepts when they got the first machine in the UK.

360 - Had to be when I saw DOA in HD for the first time.

When I was a kid, getting a console was so huge that I'd usually only have one game for the first few months, but back in those days, I could play Sonic, SF2 and Ridge Racer forever.

How things have changed- I have millions of game, and buy consoles for no reason other to have them.
