Has there been a game in the past that you tried that sat in a genre you never fancied/liked/tried and ending up loving? Did you go on to embrace more games in that genre? What game was that?
For example, I never fancied the point and click adventures of the old Amiga days, until for some reason I tried Secret of Monkey Island (the second had been out a few months at the time) and I got completely sucked in. After that I tried a shed load of point and click adventures. A few Leisure Suit Larrys... but still nothing compares to Monkey Island
Oh, and Final Fantasty (Fantasty?
) 6 on the SNES turned my to attention to turn based RPGs. I think I was too wrapped up in platform and beat em up games to give the genre the time of day.
