    The Wii Side

I am (hopefully) going to buy a wii tomorrow local shop stock permitting.

I just want to know what games you guys would recommend. I have looked at the onm but they seem to rated some rubbish games

I interested in the below but not sure how good they are

    Rampage
    super monkey balls
    Mario Strikers
    Mortal kombat
    kororinpa
Metal Slug (have heard they are emulated!!)

Are they any good? what else is the.

Note : please do not say zelda and RE4 I have them both on my cube.

    Thanks

Metal Slug is a decent little pack, though flawed in that you cannot use the D-Pad. I don't mind playing it on Wavebird w/ the analogue stick.
Hardly a game to show off the Wii though.

Sonic & the Secret Rings is decent. Flawed, but a step in the right direction. Gets frustratingly difficult later on though.

If you're discounting Zelda and RE4, then the next best Wii game by a long way is Super Paper Mario.

After that Warioware is fun but incredibly short, Big Brain Academy is great in multiplayer if you're into the Brain Training genre, and Raving Rabbids is funny and entertaining for the most part.

Avoid Monkeyball at all costs as it's really a mess, and Metal Slug as Jake says has no digital input so is pretty much pointless.

Also goes without saying given what this site is that importing a US Wii is an incredibly wise thing to do. I wouldn't recommend a PAL Wii to anyone but a very casual player who has absolutely no interest in the latest big releases and the virtual console.

Agreed also, controls are way off after the previous versions offered fantastic control, the game is also more about the mini-games than main game and 70% of which are naff to be polite.

Kororinpa gets tagged as easy and short but if you try and get Gold medals it's quite challenging and is defnitley very addictive, fantastic controls and a half decent multi-player mode to boot.

I never understood why monkeyball uses the wiimote in the remote control style, and not horizontally as with excite truck. Even just changing that would make the game somewhat better.

The mini games are almost all terrible I must say. Many of them are simply broken and should not have been released.

Mercury Meltdown is also meant to be good and i think it is cheap at play.com at the moment. I was thinking of picking it myself this weekend. I also enjoyed Mario Strikers, really good online as well.

That crazy day when the Wii was revealed I remember feeling incredibly excited about the poitential for interaction with game enviroments through the new controls. So far only Elebits has managed to live up to that - pulling open draws, throwing objects around is great fun and worth picking up to get that Wii feeling going on. Really made me want to travel a couple of years into the future and play some games that have expanded upon this. Plus it's a wii game that looks lush imo.

I'm not sure what the fuss is about Kororinpa. I found it to be a shallow, unfocussed, Monkey Ball rip-off with little to no personality of it's own. I don't think the controls are particularly tight either.

LOL, sorry im going to defend Kororinpa, calling it a monkey ball ripoff is like the ultimate insult. Why rip off a **** game

Have you actually played monkeyball on the wii??

Kororinpa has amazing control compared to monkey balls controls which are like a one legged man on crutches running on a ice rink.

& how is it a monkey ball rip off, there were marble games long before sega brought out monkey ball you know. Just because you control a ball in a arena dosent mean it was a copy of monkey ball. I don't remember you having to collect crystals in monkey ball. You dont flip entire levels on their side like you can in kororinpa.

You might think its shallow & can whizz to the end in a hour but did you unlock all the secret levels as they increase the replay factor plus the mirror levels & getting gold cups on the time trials.

As much as i love monkey ball 1 & 2 on the cube the wii version is just a pile of **** from start to finish. Sega took what was a wonderful series & managed to cock it up big time.

I too must speak up for Kororinpa, I bought a copy for my step-mum for her birthday and my wife had a quick go. She loved it that much that she went and out and her bought herself a copy of the game. Thats the first videogame she has ever bought. I watch her play (i am useless at it) and it's a joy to watch, she is slowly going through the game and getting all the secrets.

I've not played Kororinpa yet but I said that Monkey Ball's controls were terrible from the moment I played it, and after trying a few more times to get into it, quickly passed it on.

Another fan of Kororinpa here. It is totally the game Moneky Ball on the Wii should have been. It doesn't look great (does the job tho), or fully support 16:9, but the controls are spot on. Mecury Meltdown is a very different game. As much a puzzle em up as ball rolling - very solid, but alternates between sublime and annoying.

The game that gets played the most is still Wii Bowling - 100's of hours of competitive play later and people are still coming round regularly to play. Some come round to practise for the big game

hey guys this has gone way off topic.

if you want to disagree about Kororinpa and Monkey ball start another thread.

I will point out I do have no interest in the VC. When you have a Pal version of Lylat Wars and star fox 64 usa on the N64 at home. paying ?7 to play it on my Wii seem like a joke.

                            Thanks again for the advice.

Did you buy a Wii today, then? Finding stock seems to be a nightmare, although I've noticed the small shops near me - like woolworths - seem to be advertising them. Gameplay had some yesterday, too...

Thinking about getting one atm - got a bit bored of all the FPS' on 360.
