So how come recent titles have come under fire for being re-released on new consoles when music, literature and film constantly have this occuring? Change from vinyl to cd? Everything reissued. Changes from video to dvd? Everything once again reissued. So how come Resi 4 and the like are being criticised by certain individuals when it is quite possible those individuals are being rather hypocritical?

In genral I don't think most people mind re-releases so much, especially with stuff like Metal Gear Twin Snakes and Tomb Raider Anniversary as significant improvements had been made.
The problem with Resident Evil 4 is that the original still works on the Wii, the game is only a few years old and owners of a new console would prefer new games to ones they already had the oppertunity to play and finish. Once the Wii has established its own set of games it wouldn't be criticised so much. I also don't see enough new stuff on Res Evil Wii to warrent a ?30 purchase. Surely for a game thats already platinum on PS2 they could have done this at a cheaper price.

Why do people buy the same VHS - DVD - Better quality DVD - BluRay and so on? It's to get the best and most up to date experience from something they love.
Its supply and demand. I personally like remakes and the ones I choose to purchase I do so in full knowledge of their strengths and weaknesses based on MY experiences.
It also allows new players to experience an updated version of a classic where the original may not readily be available.
IMHO they are nothing but a good thing.

I like rereleases when there's an advantage to bringing it to a more modern system as long as nobody takes the piss. For example, I wish Nintendo had released a few more SNES classics on GBA (like Super Metroid), but I think releasing each and every Mario seperately at full price was slightly taking the piss. And I'd love to see some more N64 classics on DS because the handheld aspect offers a freedom that console versions don't but I'd like collections - give me OoT and MM on one card, not seperately at full price.
That said, it's quite rare in gaming that rereleasing takes the piss in the way dvd rereleases do.
