Boy buys PS2 from eBay, receives 65,400 euro's cash to go with it!

In a rather strange turn of events, British police are trying to trace down the owner of 65,400 euros (?44,000) which was reportedly sent mistakenly to a young boy who bought a PS2 for just ?95 on eBay. A box arrived to his house complete with the games console as well as 65,400 euros in cash but minus two games. Although if the money remains unclaimed, it would be possible for the boys family to keep it under the Police Property Act.

    quote:

The cash arrived in a box at the house in Aylsham, Norfolk, with the games console, but minus two games.

Police are holding the money under the Proceeds of Crime Act while the matter is investigated.

An eBay spokesman said the parcel's contents were "somewhat unusual" and it would help police with their inquiries.

The boy's parents, who are not commenting, alerted police when the parcel arrived on 20 March.

Stupid feckin parents! Heres an idea, don't tell anyone, sit on the cash for a couple of months, see if anyone contacts you regarding a large amount of cash and then chuck the PS2 away and treat yourself to a 360, PS3 and a Wii with a shedload of games.

            Not very

first thing that springs to mind is that money is related to some sort of criminal activity, last thing you want is the mob turning up on your doorstep saying you owe them 40 grand, going public with this makes the most sense, who knows if they cant track the owner they may get to keep the money.

No they're being honest and doing the right thing. The 'mob' really isn't going to care too much about 60 thousand Euro.

They could pretend it got lost in the post if there is no signature.

Is that you volunteering to ask some Sicilians to give me 60,000 Euro then? Unmarked notes too if they don't really mind?

On the subject of crime and PS2s, I remember that a while back a couple near me made the papers after they were burgled and their PS2 was taken with 4 or 5 grand stashed in the expansion port.

They were saving for a wedding or a honeymoon, I forget which, and the soon-to-be-hubby thought it a safe place to stash their life savings. I wonder if they ever did make it up the aisle...

Isn't anyone questioning why you'd pay ?95 for a second hand ps2 with only 2 games? Did it come with a ps3 chip inside it?!?!

Perhaps that was part of the money laundering plan ,Put a stupidly overpriced PS2 on ebay that noeone will buy then the other party will be able to find it easily.
